I have the Ultimate Ears quad drivers and they are great. A little on the expensive side but I've tried others and they just didn't reproduce my bass well.

Very nice Todd, I just checked them out. So are they custom molded? If so, how does that work when you purchase them?

And you did an outstanding investigative thing...or...you put two and two together and figured it out quickly! lol

Some of the TB guys on the Torn facebook page already found out last night because I slipped and told everyone...lets see, Patrick and PJ approved as well...dang my big mouth. I might as well break the standard TB practice of pictures appone arrival and tell everyone which NS2 I purchased.

Bunk, you actually helped me in some kind of way because I looked into buying your NS2 when I wasn't able to buy this bass before the NAMM 2013 show.

OK, I have given a bunch of hints and I guess I should ask you guys....should I break the rule of not telling until you get an at home picture?

Yes, they are custom molded. I had mine done while I was a NAMM about 3 years ago. You can go to an audiologist in your area and they can make a impression of your ear canal and then just send that mold to Ultimate Ears. They will digitally scan the impression then make your in-ears.

This is somewhat related to what was being discussed over at the Bartolini thread.
What sounds good in your personal practice room, headphones, etc.
does not always sound the best in a band context and vice versa.

I had a bass come through my hands a couple of years back that had the first Barts I had ever tried. At home, through my headphones, I thought it was the warmest, sweetest tone I had ever heard. On the gig, however, I could not get this bass to cut through to save my life. On the flipside, I don't get the same warm, fuzzy tone from my Spectors (or any other EMG equiped bass) solo, but have no trouble ever on stage with a full group.

The feel thing could be very influenced by how much you are digging the tone of one bass over another. It seems to be much easier to play when you're happy with your tone.

I had a Quantum 5 briefly that had Barts in it, and I have to agree it had a hard time cutting through the band. At the time I was blaming it on the OBP-3, but now that I've had some more experience with Aggie preamps in Spectors, I think it had to be the pickups.

Would in ears monitors (just for my bass) be a good way to go? I was thinking something the provides isolation from the rest of the band but could give me some of my tone back in the ear buds?

I know it's not very rock and roll but I just can't gig/practice with the band without some kind of protection in place. And no, the band isn't going to turn down and honestly even if they did the drums would get me anyway.

I've been using the custom filters for years, & while they don't give me an exact reproduction of my tone, it doesn't bother me all that much. I set my tone before the show starts. (I usually have no problem getting my sound dialed in.) After that I just need to hear myself, & I manage that by adjusting my volume. Never have relied on monitors for anything but guitar and/or vocals. Just the way I've been brought up. As long as I can hear a bit of everything I'm good.

I've been thinking of getting some in-ears also once my new project gets off the ground. I have tinitus in my right ear from a drummer that we once had. He was a little guy from Thiland, but would hit the drums so hard that at least once a month he would blow the bottom out of the snare. Looked like a mulch pit after every practice. So, now I can't hear **** out of my right ear. He actually quit because he said I yelled at him too much.
