OK so upon a friend's recommendation I listened to the new album by a band called Scale the Summit, and wow is it great technical/prog instrumental work.

The bass sits beautifully in their mix and has real growl. Sounds like Spector to me. Anyone in the club fans of these guys, know if it is actually Spector bass in this band? Because if not it should be.

Listened to an older album but the bass didn't sound as growly or punchy, maybe it was a recent addition?

I have one of these and when I did some research I found that some where built before Stuart started building them, I believe under the name NYC. Someone interested should research it and talk to PJ. Mine has the Spector logo on the headstock and is signed and numbered by Stuart on the back. Definitely a cool guitar.....

Of course everyone on here knows how much that I LOVE my Coda 5XL DLX...I owned one Fender before discovering Spectors. When the Coda came out in 2010 I was totally intrigued as well. I almost bought one that year but held off mostly because I wanted to hear one play and plus I was really afraid to move away from the NS body comfort. Well...when the Coda Deluxe model came out, that was all it took... Ended up my fears of comfort was nothing to worry about after all. I didn't find it at all difficult to transition from the NS body to the Coda. I bought a NS-2000/5 that now belongs to our Donny aka Worshiprocker...I found out that there's so much to love about the Coda for me, that the NS-2000/5 wasn't being being played and I prefer the wider string spacing 17mm on the Coda. This is my 12th Spector that I've owned.

As for the comparison of the neck...IMHO I find it nice and thin front to back...similar but thinner than my Forte 5 I had, very comfortable to play for hours, fast, very low action, my hands are size large, no problem reaching across the fingerboard at all.
It's the most untypical Jazz bass and the BEST Jazz bass that I've played by far. Matter of fact, prior to the Coda, I swore off Jazz basses all together. I am curious about your 17mm spacing comment on the Coda. Since that is pretty much the standard spacing for a 5 string (the wider option on the USA bolt-ons is 19mm,) what is the string spacing on the NS20005?

Yes, Mark Michell is a Spector player and uses a Legend 6. He just joined the band in 2012 so maybe that is why the other recordings sound different. I really wanted to see them when they came to Philly with Trioscapes but I had too much going on at the time unfortunately.

Nice! (being a Spector player, not you missing them touring of course) Looks like I'm missing them too they are playing in my area tomorrow and there's no way I can cancel my plans to go see them the day after I heard of them!

Oh well they will tour again and I can catch them next time.

Its tight, I don't have the proper tools to measure but its a lot closer spacing than any 5 string I've owned/played

Actually, this is one of those weird things...

Stuart did build about 30 Blackhawks during the 1996-1997 time period.

Chris "Lumpy" Hofschneider - Richie Sambora's long-time guitar tech and one of the guitar designer/builders at Kramer approached Stuart about doing a joint venture using the Blackhawk design he'd developed right after Kramer imploded.

Stuart said, "Sure, why not?" And they did the 30 guitars.

Lumpy has been Mike Tobias' assistant for years.

This is obviously a NON-Spector (SSD) Lumpy-made Blackhawk and therefore really Isn't an SSD.

Its is a Spector Legend 6. The old bassist used a Peavey Cirrus 6. Absolutely AMAZING band.

Exactly. Except that I have a 1998 Spector (not SSD) Blackhawk #34. Double S logo. Fits right in with the oddball models that happen every once in a while.

Speaking of 6 strings, I picked up the Kramer era ARC 6 that was on ebay this morning. I've been looking for a 6 string so I don't have to borrow my guitar players anymore. Looking forward to plugging it into my JC120. I have heard they are super clean and should sound good with the Jazz Chorus.

That's actually an NS-6.
The original NS-6 wasn't a bass. It was an electric guitar.

What is really cool about the NS-6 is that is has the EXACT same body as any of your neck-thru Spector Bass.

The ARC6 is actually either a bolt-on or set neck. The NS-6 is a neck-thru design.

You're gonna love that guitar.

Just got home from practice with the new NS2A I got from Keith (loend68). Man, this thing plays and feels alot like jade, but its lighter, and has a little different tone. Its nice and growly, nice sizzle on the highs. It really sounds great. I'm going to use it for my show this weekend. I put my strings on it and I really have got it dialed in... and the neck, its the thinnest neck of any NS2A I've owned (I've owned 3). I'm very impressed by this bass, I need to string up Jade with some new strings and start checking output levels because this bass is seeing some shows. I'm glad I rethunk buying this bass. Keith is a great guy to do business with too. And something I love is that it has the Spector by Kramer case... to me that is a cool piece of history.

Be careful, Jade may get jealous I love Spectors with thin necks. They're somewhat rare these days.

hah, jade plays nice with others, she knows she is my number one so she doesn't mind letting others get some lime light.

That is very cool, did you get the stock bass or the one with the new pick-ups?
