Time to restring my basses. I hate old strings and my E's are going dead. Anyone using Blue Steels ? May try Dunlop steels too.

I hate to say this but I wouldn't recommend Dunlop steels if you are dealing with dead E strings. I put a set on my Forte and the E string was completely dead in a week which to me is just insane.

I went back to D'Addarrio nickels on my Forte and like them much better since they have been on for almost 3 weeks now and the E string is still going strong.

Thanks for the heads up. I was using D'Addarrio Pro Steels, great string, great price but I figured I would try a few others. Ive use DR LoRiders and Rotos on my Fender but not on my Spectors yet. The DRs are a bit pricey though when you have a habit of changing strings ever month or 2,

Finally got around to doing the hardware swap on my Euro last night. I changed to Gotoh GB7s from the stock Schallers. The bushings on the Gotohs are bigger so I had to ream the holes to widen them. It was a bit nerve-wracking at first but I tried to just take it slow and before too long I got the hang of it. If anyone it considering this, I can walk you through it (as well as send you the reamer to borrow...it was expensive and I'd like to see it get used!) The bridge swap-out was pretty straightforward. I'm pleased with how it came out. I need to get it setup up and dialed in tonight.

More pics later. Here's just a quick grab on the iPhone this morning.

Man! You already had the best looking Euro and now it's even better! :bassist: :D

PS... Nice shine on that finish in the new pics.

I can never say too many good things about DR Hi-Beams. Sound great and very long life. I use them on my 4 and 5 string basses.

Agreed Dunlops are a mixed bag on quality control. When I was recording the album I was using Dunlop nickels and I had to rotate three different sets through denatured alcohol regularly to keep them lively.

If/when I stop using the Circle K's, I will likely go back to Fat Beams until I settle on something else...again.

My understanding is Fat Beams are essentially Hi-beams with more "meat".

Very nicely done and looks great!

I like the gold better....:hiding:

But that looks good too!

I'm still getting used to the black. Not the black is bad. I do like it quite a bit. The black is stealthy but it all just kind of blurs together now that I look at these pics again. But I'd really like to do chrome. I think that would really make the quilt pop.

Sadly, the chrome Euro bridges were limited to the Sting tributes according to PJ. They only made enough to do that run. I suppose if I really wanted to get this bridge chromed, I could do that. The hardest part was the switch over to the Gotoh's. But you can get GB7s in black, gold, and chrome really easily. Decisions, decisions. Yes, I know. There are worse problems to have. First world problems, one might say. :D
