Hello fellow Spector owners, way back in part 62 of the 'club', I posted a pic of my Legend Classic 4 and have used it faithfully until last month when I sold it and bought a Rebop 4 DLX which I am amazed with.
I am a lefty and found it used locally as most lefties usually do. I like it alot and it seems heads and tails above the Legend in terms of build quality and overall feel for me. I have no issues with the neck dive like others have, and it sounds good with the tone pump.
I have decided to swap out the preamp to the EMG BQC system to gain more tonal options with a blend and mid control. For now, I want to keep the original pickups in the bass and maybe upgrade at a later time.
From what I understand, its an easy mod and I will have a local shop do the work for me. I am thinking that I will have many more tones from it when I switch to either nickel wounds or flats. Right now I have it strung with DR Fat Beams I had before picking her up, but think a higher tension nickel wound string may serve me better with the preamp upgrade.
Pics to come, I waxed and cleaned her up earlier and keep noodling around trying to tame the tone pump at living room levels.

To be honest, the color is kinda dark, but if you take it out into the sun that's what you get. Surprised the hell out of me the first time.

Continuing a subject from Part 69...
Several TB threads regarding this subject, but it boils down to simple physics. To get the same volume & projection as a good Martin D-28 guitar, an acoustic bass would have to be as large or larger than an upright bass.
The same thing applies to bass amplification - we bassists need 10x the power and 6x the speaker cone area to match the volume levels of an electric guitar.
This especially frustrates me... While I can easily fit my 400-watt SWR Headlite amp in my gig bag accessory pocket, I'll forever be burdened with having to haul a hefty sized speaker.
Yes I read the bass acoustic thread a few months back...and pretty much after reading all responses, I decided to not pursue an acoustic bass...for now.You're right about the physics...maybe there's an Upright Bass in my future.
Might just as well do the gig with your Spector and a small amp. I have a guy with an acoustic group that calls me regularly to play lounge gigs and I just bring a Spector and a small amp (usually with a 2x10 cab, although I'm thinking of going with a single neo 15) and it all works out quite well.
Same with me...I have my Ampeg B-15T, BA-112 and Acoustic B-20 for Small to Big gigs
Agreed on all fronts; the acoustic bass guitar is truly a poorly conceived idea, designed to fix a problem that never really existed.
They play like a boat oar in comparison to any electric bass and project terribly, regardless of their cost and build quality.
The artist I play for is a Martin ambassador so unfortunately I have to play one of their ABG's for all of our acoustic gigs, despite the fact that my modified Legend fretless through my little Aguilar rig cops a much better upright vibe and is exponentially easier to play
Refinishing my Kramer from gloss trans blue to oil did not yield any tonal differences that were noticeable.

Yes, I get that totally. That's why I picked up recently an oil finished Euro NSCR (an I don't want "ping" with this bass, so I'm good). The NSCR is off with my luthier getting a bath and lube job. That bass, with the NV115 (on the bottom of my stack) should do the trick nicely. Oh yeah, I guess I'm in too:
