SPECTOR® Club - Part 70

I'm in and all relocated to sunny Southern California. The Spector family made the treck across country (from Ohio) just fine and are now seeing some play time again. In the 2 years I've owned and played Spectors I've come to a solid conclusion - these basses, from the low cost Asian to the medium priced European to the premium priced American models are without exception a dream to play, hold and look at.
I'm a Spector fan for life and continuing my quest for just the right Spectors to replace each of my other brands of basses. So far my Woodstock NS-2J SE is my go to Jazz, and my Rex5 Pro Spectorbird is my go to Humbucker, my Euro 4 LX is getting close to being my go to PJ and will probably be there once I flip out the nontrim TP for a USA 9volt or Aggie OBP-3. The last niche I need to fill is a solid replacement for my Stingrays. Any word out there from a Rebop MM owner on how they compare to a PreEB Stingray?

here is one for you guys. I got my US 18v today (thanks Ho!!!) and I couldn't wait to try it out. I wired it up with my SSDs in my Legend X... the tone is alot fuller and really killer through my practice rig. I have full band practice tonight, so I'm going to try it out. :). I'll let you guys know how it works out. and also I still plan on getting some DCs

The 18v is great! You'll love those DCs too.

They play like a boat oar in comparison to any electric bass and project terribly, regardless of their cost and build quality.

The artist I play for is a Martin ambassador so unfortunately I have to play one of their ABG's for all of our acoustic gigs, despite the fact that my modified Legend fretless through my little Aguilar rig cops a much better upright vibe and is exponentially easier to play :spit:

Hahaha!:o That's one of the funniest descriptions of an ABG that I've heard! Might as well use them as a canoe paddle, hehehe. :D
I wanted an ABG for playing around the camp fire. So that's why I decided to pursue playing an AG. Good ole campfires! :):bassist:

Just a thought...I wonder how far the high gloss penetrates into the pores of the wood... As a woodworker myself, most often times you use a sealer to soak into and close the woods pores prior to adding any stain or urethane etc... With that being said, even though your bass body was sanded down to bare wood, it's a very good chance the wood pores were still closed deeper than the sanding went. With oil, it continues to penetrate into the woods pores starting with the 1st coating and continues for life of the wood. The wood being somewhat like a sponge. That could be the difference in Donny's former CRFM which was oil from the beginning vs. yours that was changed into an oiled finish. Just a thought...FWIW :)

Yes, I get that totally. That's why I picked up recently an oil finished Euro NSCR (an I don't want "ping" with this bass, so I'm good). The NSCR is off with my luthier getting a bath and lube job. That bass, with the NV115 (on the bottom of my stack) should do the trick nicely. Oh yeah, I guess I'm in too:

here is my report.

The US 18v is a very powerful preamp. With the SSD it was missing something. It sounded especially great by itself. Even my drummer said "that bass sounds soo good. Its just super punchy" but in the mix it was almost getting lost. Definitely not cutting through like my PJ and tonepump equipped Jade. I think the DCs will help a bit and I can't wait to try them out. This is a very cool preamp.

Awesome. I'd be interested to hear how you like the new pre with the DC's. I may consider going the USA 18V in my Rex 5 over the OBP-3 for a different sound then my Euro 5. I also plan on pairing the pre with a set of DC's.

Still here with my one and only now, it was my best value and most practical to keep for my spector fix, i do miss my kramer though.

Patrick, You've pretty much single handedly been an institution around here since I joined the club.
