SPECTOR® Club - Part 73

That's pretty much what the ZoomB3 is doing now. I've got the Aguilar, a chorus and just a weeeeee bit of fuzz on it and it just screams spector with an added kick. The TH350 and 112 cab I played were amazing. But sometimes you get caught up in a store playing with something and make an $900 mistake. Currently I've got my eye on another Spector a 4X. I'm just thinking that I'll start to save now and hope something comes along in about 4 months on the classifieds. I'm really just looking for the reassurance that when I get it home, I'm going to be just as thrilled as I was the first time I heard the Spector in the PA with the Aguilar setup on the B3.

I really don't think you've got anything to lose then, really. I'm a loyal Mesa Boogie guy but the only other brand that's caught my interest recently has been Aguilar. I'd love to get a DB751/412 rig but nothing ever comes up locally.

Everything I hear about the Aguilar gear is top notch and that the pedal tone hammer is basically the same as the head. I think if you've been happy with the Zoom modeling the tone hammer then you'll really like the amp when you get the chance to turn the volume up a little bit.

This older Legend's pre looks like it's a 3 band EMG but by the knob config I don't see how it could be a sweepable mid. Anybody know more about this?

I figure it's this model.

I'm waiting to hear from Todd on the price of a fretless neck for it.

Thanks Trace. I'll check it out and decide what to do with it.
Either pretty much leave as is, or get a fretless neck for it.
Been wanting a fretless and someone was talking about a place to buy the neck.

That would be me. Here's the contact info...

Yes we do have a 5 string fretless neck in stock for your Legend. The price is $225 plus shipping. It is lineless but will have to check on the wood used for the fretboard.
If you would like to purchase the neck please send your address and phone number. We will create the order then call you for your credit card information.

Thanks,

Mark

Congratulations Jeff! You lucky guy, that's a beauty! :bassist:

Thanks Michael.
Very lucky. I put in my bid at 10s and it only took the price up $10 more than it was at. I always do this. Place your max bid at 10s - 15s, if you're out bid, well it's more than you want to spend. If you're the top bidder, they don't have time to counter. :D

I'm waiting on a reply from Todd today. He's contacting them about it. Todd said the wood will be rosewood and unhardened. I'm glad to hear they're unlined. I like the clean look of the unlined neck and after all, when I play I never look at the frets, just the dots on the side.

Thanks again!

$225 for a legend neck, but you'll be set back over $400 for a ReBop 5 :( ...and then shipping/duty/taxes as it crosses the border for me. :(

Can I get everyone's input on my situation.

My ReBop 5DLX neck isn't looking like it's going to be an easy fix for me. Couple this with limited income & I'm left in a situation where I don't have a working Spector. :(

I have 2 other basses in working order (Fender P & a Jackson CBX-V) but I really miss the sound & feel of my Spector.

Would you guys sell the ReBop loaded body (40J pickups w/ non-trim tonepump) and try to find a used Legend 5, or would you try to scrape up the cash for a new neck?

I've checked with Hanser & it looks like the neck will set me back $350 rosewood or $450 maple + shipping/duty/tax...so well over $500. *sigh* This would take me about 6 months to save up, given my current expenses.

How much do you think I could get for the loaded body? Would it be worth it to swap the body back to the EMG-HZ pickups & sell the 40Js separately?

Would anyone be interested in purchasing the body, or perhaps trading me a Legend 5 for it?

You could always get a small PA rig for your house and run your stuff through that. I bought an 80 watt pa on craigslist for $50 and its been awesome

Jeff, that is an older EMG circuit. I forget the name but it is a mid sweep on the stacked knob. It is not the current EMG 3 band pre tho so I imagine it to sound different.

What is wrong with the neck.

I don't know that a broke rebop5 is worth a working Legend5. :o

The truss rod in the neck was seized, due to a sloppy glue job at the factory. I have the neck open & a new truss rod on the way, but it's looking like levelling the neck to reglue the board down is more than my skills can handle.

The Rebop's got EMG 40J pickups in it, and I've even wired in the hot swap control board, so you can swap in a different set of EMGs just by unplugging them & plugging the new ones in. :)

There are some really good you tube videos on truss rod replacement including R&R of the fretboard.
You can always practice leveling and re-gluing on 2x4s and 1/2 x2.
