SPECTOR® Club - Part 74

It is something to behold im very fortunate to get equipment i get. It makes me sound like a better bassist too. ;-)

Glad you're still loving the prodigy. I knew it'd have enough power for my needs and I'm glad it'll work out in the end for you! I really wanted to check out the Strategy but I found a prodigy locally months ago and jumped on it as soon as I could.

You're 100% right though, Spector and Mesa is like a match made in heaven. Last practice the band had I had my tone dialed in so perfect at half power and my Euro 5 was sounding perfect, then I broke a string.

I played a show in early January with a back lined cab but am playing a hometown show on the 15th of Feb so I'll finally get to try the full rig out on stage.

You should post a Prodigy/Spector photo!

I'd have to agree on the Mesa/Spector. I played my NS2A through my friends M6 and it sounded awesome! I really want to try a BB750 someday. I had a line on one a few months back, but couldn't pull the trigger on time......

I've had the bb750 and sold it. I have had the m6 for a year plus now and its bliss with Spectors! I actually run either an aguilar d112 and 112nt or bergantino hd212 with it. Its quite "the hammer"

Great shots.....I would love to play in a band that plays more music like yours. My band is more Classic rock with a touch of blues. But we practice 5 minutes from my house and the are two beers on tap there sooooo, it ain't too bad. But you guys look like you're having a great time and playing to great crowds. Glad you found Spector.:bassist::bassist:

And GO HAWKSSSSS!!!!!

Thanks man it is a lot of fun. I actually found Spector about 28 years ago. In fact Ian Hill from Priest is playing an NS2 I used to own for a while. Spector has always been the bass for me.

I decided to replace the DC's in my NS-5P with a P5X in the neck and a JX in the bridge... I really like the P5X, but the JX is very weak :rollno: So I decided to try putting one of the DC's in the bridge, and the result is a much better, more even response in conjunction with the P5X in the neck.
Here are the sound clips (if anyone is interested - its just a scale, nothing fancy). I also posted screen clips of the wave files, and you can see how much the J drops in volume (and the DC actually gets louder/fuller compared to the P):

Have you thought of putting in another P5X in the bridge position?

I'm on the fence about it - I 'think' I'm pretty happy/satisfied with the tones I'm getting, but I'm not sure if its just GAS that makes me want to add the P5X. I just put in for a RMA with BestBassGear about the JX, and I may just see if I can get an exchange for a P5X.

After listening to your samples I (personally) liked the P5X alone the best. If you put another in, you would have the ability to blend between the two and find that sweet spot. YMMV

Well I'm finally selling my NS20005. Since I got my Legend Classic 6, I don't play the 5-string much at all anymore, though I do prefer the NS20005's 35" scale to the Legend's 34".

I've seen very few Spectors with this Cherryburst finish, which is why I'm so hesitant to sell, but I've got something like 18 basses (6 Spectors) which is way too many and I need to clear house and sell a bunch of them.

It's got dual EMG-Hz humbuckers with an EMG BTS preamp modded to 18v, decal crown inlays over the dots, and as I mentioned, neck through 35" scale.

PM me for additional details and more pictures, I'd like it to go to a club member so I'm not putting up a for sale thread quite yet.

I will be shipping it in an old Spector case that either never had the logo on it or it was worn off (kinda weird), but the outside of the case is identical to the one my Euro came in, except for the logo, might have been around the time Stuart was trying to get the trademark back.

I just came across two albums I played on about 6 years ago in my old hard-drive...it was very interesting to see how much I loved AND loathed some of the things that I played, but also noticeable was the obvious tonal improvement between those tracks and the more recent ones when I had switched over to Spector :D :bassist:

Still sounds great:bassist:
Just picked this bad boy up. All i can say is WOW ! Mesa boogie knocked it out of the park. Spector and Mesa match made in heaven
Magnificent looking! I bet it sounds killer.
I'm with you, and to my ear the EMG pups smoke the Aggie ones at least in a Spector. The preamps sound great tho.
Even though I'm totally happy with the Aggies in my Coda 5XL, I've wondered what EMGs would sound like in place. :)
I'm glad this is becoming your "go to" bass. Not that your Brooklyn isn't special but...
Also glad you don't subscribe to the "this bass cost too much to take out in public". I love taking mine out... then again my four and fiver are my only basses (at the moment). LOL

Very nice! Looks like everyone's having fun:bassist::)
Maybe we could do a field trip and show you some of the cool fire houses in the city of Chicago and suburbs, then got to the store and get to see some awesome basses and amps and finish it off with some amazing BBQ.
Brother I'd be down for that! I've been wanting to take a trip to Chicago for a while now...:D Love some fantastic BBQ! And that Chicago deep dish PIZZA! :hyper:

The DCs are a huge improvement. :bassist::cool:

AH! Awesomeness! Love the grain patterns in the wood! They did an outstanding finish job! :hyper: Love to see a fiver P at NAMM:bassist: Fretless Coda 5XL P....

Thanks once again to another Alberta Clipper that started last night, our drummer couldn't get show up for our gig this morning(He lives on a tall hill with open fields that drift really horrible), but, after the last song our SB engineer came up to me and said, "I LOVE that bass!" Pointing to Big Blue. He said when the drummer doesn't show, I can dial your bass more into the house and it sounds outstanding. And just to think, I almost brought my fretless to play this morning. :bassist: :smug:

I'm curious which P pickup they are using in that Coda P model. Aguilar posted this video the other day and I have to say, their P pickups sound amazing. I especially like the high output one they have but between all of these and the new EMG Geezer Butler pickup, it will make it a tough choice to pick if/when I decide to get a P bass.

I'd have to say by the looks probably Aguilars. Weird though...when I was talking to PJ about a Coda 5 P bass he mentioned they'd be using EMGs as that's what their template was cut for. Aguilars must be the same size, maybe?
