In regards to the SS pups, PJ had me at "Jazz bass on steroids". That in an NS 2 body, no brainer.

Here's a shot he sent my earlier. Rudy was one of my bass idols growing up. Hope he banged out some Quiet Riot riffs.

WHOA very cool pic of Rudy.. i remember talking to him back in the 80s on whitesnakes tour bus for like 20 minutes about playing bass(that was when i just started) he was very nice and informative and just and all around good guy.. awesome that he is now a Spector player...

I think I've been going through Spector withdrawal this past week... back in Dec I dropped off my purple SD-5P to Phil Jacoby in MD, and then on Monday I dropped off my deep blue NS-5P to Audric Jankauskas here in the Philly area... Still haven't heard back from Phil (I know he's really backed up), but just heard back from Audric, and my NS-5P is ready for pickup

Well guys, I sold Ho's forte to a fellow TBer.
so it's in good hands and he loves Spectors. So, as fast as I joined the club...I left the club.... back to Alembic world...
The bass played awesome its just that those EMG pickups were plain as day to me....I like more throaty, mid, sound I guess....

Good luck on your bass search, very sorry if any of us acted rude towards you. If you find another Spector you are always welcome and most guys can help you find the sound your looking for and will make model, pickup choice, and pre-amp suggestions.

I was not aware the Webster came in red, or maybe I'd never seen one before.

Yup, that sounds very tempting. After what MDbass said about the Aggies it's got me thinking. I didn't know the EMG's had a scooped sound, and with the Aggies having an aggressive mid grind it's got me rethinking the next build.

If you could post some sound clips sometime when you get a chance that'd be great.

Who knows, might even go with the Hot J's.

ya that has to be a TON of mids. I know my basses are very mid forward with the EMGs.... Thats one of things I'm afraid to try for fear that it would be too different to what I have now.

maybe I need to make a trip to your place when you have one of each

OK, with the combined knowledge and wide spectrum of members here, this seems like the best place to post a question like this one,.

I'm suffering from a bad case of SAS, I think we all are with all the NAMM fotos being posted. I'm looking to add an NS2-J to the arsenal to keep my NS2 company! I'm looking for a bolt on neck and it's got to have two hot Aguilar J pups. I'd prefer a matte finish, color and wood is flexible. Oh and 4 strings.

Any leads??

I prefer by far my Euro5LX original Alex Webster. The red on the Zombie Drip, I'm not too sure...

Very tempting. I like EMG tone but we are very straight forward sometimes about the tone we stick to...who knows. My next Spector is definately Forte SS with shaved neck.

I've been thinking the opposite until now. Get a NS4 with 35P's in it, but this has me thinking (It always costs me money when I get like this ). Maybe a NS2 JJ w/SS or Hot J pups?

I'd like to hear what the Forte SS sounds like. Does it have an Aggie pre? I wonder what they (SS and/or Hot J) would sound like with the 9v or 18v pre's. If they are passive pups but wound hot, do they push the 9v like it needs in order to get it's "sound"?

I've been an EMG humbucker guy since 1989. But since the Spector bug bit I've been seeking a more mid forward tone. Hmmm...

I was only really talking about the J pickups honestly, the P's are obviously inerently mid forward.

The standard EMG's aren't entirely scooped in the mids, they actually have a low mid bump, but the upper mids are definitely recessed and lack that alnico magnet grind.

Check out EMG's website, Bobby Vega does comparison clips of all the different J pickups flavors, and it's pretty remarkable how different the standard one's sound from the JAX/JVX line.

Me too. I often wonder how the guys with multiple USA builds afford them. That's a HUGE chunk of change to drop!

Well, I stopped playing bass for a living (didn't want to... had to), got a good job (that took a while), no mortgage, and no kids.

Oh yeah... and a VERY understanding wife! Evidenced by her sticking with me through years on the road.

I will always acknowledge I am very very lucky to be in this position. But I will also always miss having the creation of music on stage and in the studio as the central focus of my life. And for that I envy those of you who can do that.
