I used to agree that the Haz-Lab preamp was overrated. So much so that I removed it from my Kramer era NS2 shortly after I bought it back in the day. It was sitting in a box in a closet for over 20 years. About a month ago the EMG preamp in my NS5 CR died on me and I decided to install the Haz in it's place. The tone is much warmer and fuller than it's ever been. I've owned this bass for over 15 years and it's been my main live bass since I got it but I was never completely happy with the tone. When I bought it back in the 90's, 5 string Spectors were almost impossible to find and I settled for the only one I could get. Changing the preamp to the Haz has transformed it from a bass I had been thinking about getting rid of to a bass that sounds, looks and plays like a US NS5 for thousands less. It was the best decision I could have made! :D

So many of us want to do the very same thing that you did, I could load one into the NS2A plus start collecting different Euro basses if I had access to resonable priced/available 9V circuits and save a bunch of money.

I like to remember that moment, being told that you have cancer that is most likely terminal; the feeling of the floor giving way beneath you and time standing still… the sound of my own heartbeat thundering in my ears… because it helps me put these otherwise difficult events into clear perspective.

Let me end things with this; I stand by everything I've ever said here. Stuart makes the best bass guitars in the world in my opinion. I meant it when I have written here that your musical journey belongs to you. You should play whatever makes you love playing and I am happy for those of you who have found your conduit of choice; the guitar that makes you happy to be alive and to be a bassist.

Sometimes individuals, feelings and Egos get in the way of a great thing. I wish I had something graceful or poetic to say, but I'm more of a "Blunt Force" when it comes to my Mouth and the comments that spew from my pie hole.

I love Spectors, I love their sound, I love their feel and I Love their Quality. All those things are done by the craftsman of the instruments and the attention to details that were taught to them from their first day of work. The shop floor is a lot different then the office floor. I don't think there is one person who could argue that your skills and vision "ADDED" to the beauty and uniqueness of the brand.

All I can say is , Spector Lost a Phenomenal Mind and Visionary. Sometimes people are scared of change or scared of the lime light being taken away from them. Unfortunately, it happens all the time in the music industry. But, like anything, Time heals. Thats not to say you'll be having diner with that person in 2 years, but the contributions you made to the company can be seen everywhere and can never be denied regardless, and that individual will have to see and acknowledge your work on a daily basis. On the flip side, you now get to stretch your creative talents beyond just a singular brand. You have the opportunity infuse your vision, ideas and dreams into numerous projects and endeavors. All the while, your contributions to a former employer and brand keep on going noticed, appreciated and desired by others.

I will also say that your knowledge and passion has further reinforced my desire and passion of playing. i look forward to your future projects and can't wait to see were your creative talents take you.

My guess would be warmer/fuller/grittier; I had an NS-2A with standard EMG's and a Haz copy that sounded pretty darn close to a real NS-2.

Personally, I'd take the OBP-3 over the TP, it's a much more versatile pre. I can see wanting the 40TW over the 40DC, but there's really no difference when they're in humbucker mode. Not that I could notice, at least.

Neither one of these changes will really affect the value or SAS factor, IMO.

I was thinking and after your several messages I will keep the DC and Aguilar...... I was thinking on get it back to stock that was my first TonePump message....

Forget it ... I will keep as it gets to my hands..... DC and Aggie OBP-3 ...

The TW in humbucker mode is actually the CS model, not the DC; I had both at different times in my old Euro5 and the TW is definitely less aggressive on top and warmer/fuller in the mids compared to the DC.

The OBP-3 and DC's are a great combo though, and extremely versatile to boot

I really liked the way it sounded with the DC's and the Aggie but you won't hurt my feelings Nico if you want to change anything. It's your bass now. :bassist: :D

Best idea I've heard in a long time.
Put me down for one of each. :bassist:

Sooner or later, the one-man operation at HAZ-LABS is going to collapse due to his retirement or demise. Spector will have to find another outfit to build the US 9-volt circuit, and that would be the perfect time for them to throw their hat into the effects pedal ring.

But would they, even if they could?

Something tells me they purposely limit availability of the 9-volt circuit in order to bolster sales of new USA basses. After all, given the opportunity, how many of us would choose to install a 9-volt pre in our Euro or CRFM basses, rather than order a new (and rather pricey) USA build?
I don't think I'm the only one here who could cough up the money for a 9-volt way faster & easier than I could for another USA Spector bass....

I agree with you but want to also ask....Do you think that the parts that are in the circuit are getting out dated, I mean they have had to make some revisions over the years just to keep up with availability of components???
