We're all happy to help however we can.

Realize though, that short of hard data such as actual measurements, much of what you ask is subjective. So, what is one thing to one person, means another to someone else.

If you buy used Spectors, you can get one bass, if it's not quite what you want you want can turn it around for pretty much what you paid for it and buy another until you find what "does it" for you.

Personally, I bought a new Euro first and that did it for a couple of years after a little customizing. Then I jumped into new USA builds and they are the bomb. But I've been lucky though. If I had stayed with Euros I'd have been quite happy.

I guess what I'm saying is try not to over analyze this. Any Spector is a GREAT bass... Is it your perfect bass? You won't know until you try. If it's not quite it, well then, move on and get another. That's part of the fun!

Thanks for all the Spector info and help so far. A happy coincidence has occurred and now I'm looking at possibly buying a used US-made NS-6H2, instead of buying a new Euro6LX. It's kind of a tough choice, many factors to consider - not least of which is having a lifetime warranty if I go for the Euro.

You guys have helped me with my questions on neck thickness, and so far I gather from the insight of the group that in general the Euro necks are thinner from front to back than their US counterparts (we've talked neck-through models only, so far). But where do the US-made bolt-ons fit into this equation? Are they as chunky as the US neck throughs, slimmer like the Euros, or somewhere between?

So one of the main differences between the NS-6H2 and the Euro6LX is the body shaping, correct? I read that the US one has less contouring, but where? Is the body just as arched as the Euro's? The US bolt-ons seem to have better fret access on the treble side, so that's cool. Also digging the Hipshot bridge with the adjustable spacing, which is generally kind of a must for me. And I likely would have put an OBP-3 in there to have midrange control, as I've done with all my basses. So there are a lot of positives there.

Any comparisons folks can draw between these two models would be welcome! I just spent an hour listening to peoples' Youtube videos of NS-6H2/5H2s. This particular one has a pau ferro board, maple neck, mahogany back and quilted maple top. Things I like in a bass are:

-Good at many different styles/tonalities. Versatility.
-lightweight.
-bright and aggressive acoustically, or at least not dull acoustically and capable of that modern zingy sound when plugged in without a ton of EQing.
-good balance when standing and sitting
-a sleek, slim neck (but maybe not so slim that it has stability issues - been there!)

I'd say you are heading and selected the correct Spector bass. The bolt-on USA Spector bass necks are thinner front to back and everything that you described that you look for in a bass. Outstanding versatility:bassist: There are quite a few in our family here that play USA Spector Bolt-on neck models. Including myself, a Coda 5XL Deluxe Jazz. :)

johnsonabq and iceboxbass, thanks! You're right - there's no substitute for getting a bass in your hands and seeing what you feel, rather than obsessing about specs, as I've been known to do ;)

I got more than I bargained for today when I went to check out a fellow Seattleite's SSD 6 string - he had several Spectors and SSDs, and I got to play 4 of them. A Forte 4 and 5, and older SSD 5 string, and an SSD 6 string. I'm really glad I did, and I was on my way to a rehearsal so I had my Warwick SSII 5 string to compare with.

Most things about all of them, I liked! I think the Forte 5 and the older SSD 5 string were my favorites. Decided that - sorry to offend anyone on this - I don't care for the heel on these US-made necks. It slopes to meet the neck much further down the neck than I'm used to, but the Forte seemed to do that less. Looking at pics of different models, looks like I prefer the heel on the NS-H2 models, since they don't have that hump, but that's just me! Obviously they're bolt ons so you can't directly compare, but I prefer a less noticeable heel that transitions very quickly.

Thanks again, I'll try to lay off the Qs a bit now that I have some good first hand experience :) If bass NW is open tomorrow, I think I'll be heading down there to check out one more complimentary pair of Spectors.
