I've got 2 legends a 4 classic very modified and a 4X with HZs and even those are different from each other. A local shop does sell the SBMM and I've played it. I do love the sound of the MM pickup, but with my Classic 4 I've EMGXs and the BQC pre. I can just dial in so many more sounds. Plus I like the feel of the Legend Classic better. Again, not say the MM is bad, it has a great sound and it's own place in the bass world, but when asking a bunch of guys who love Spectors....... Well, your going to get a slightly biased opinion.

I think this will be the wood for my NS-2 bolt on.
At least, that's what the shop has picked out for me.
Looks good to me for Ultra Amber.

That's not a bad idea. I had a Modulus Q5 a few years ago that had a Nordy pre with the stacked volume. I didn't particularly like it on that bass, but might be willing to give it another go.

Either way it probably won't happen until later this summer.

If you're in the market for a Legend, I might look into a NS2A. They usually go for around $600 +/-. IMO a step up from the Legend. I also have a legend, not a bad bass at all, I just prefer my NS2A.

The pickup in it is a Bartolini, so what I was thinking of was one of the narrow soapbars like an X4 shape, not so much in the neck position, but close to the bridge pickup as I like the tightness and focus of pickups close together and near the bridge.

Firstly, thoughts on that pickup and position?

Secondly..my main concern is routing for it without doing any damage. I just couldn't handle that. There's no way I could do this myself so I would have a pro do it. Is it a fairly simple thing to route without chipping the edges or something?

Any thoughts on who could do this and a ballpark cost for just the routing?

My first three pot custom build by John East did have a vol/blend stack and no three way switch. I had him build the vol/vol preamp because I didn't like the way the volume and tone changed when I panned from neck to bridge. At center detent on the blend knob the volume would drop a bit and the tone would thin out some. May have just been some cancellation effect between the to pickups. However the vol/vol stack has no such issues and because they are on a stack knob vs two different knobs you can easily grasp both the upper and lower ring and increase or decrease the volume of both pickups in perfect ratio to each other. I love it!

I'm trying to pick up guitar again. Just got a great deal on a Gibson LP Studio. My fingers are hating the small strings. I'm sure to have blisters tomorrow. lol

I cover a song tomorrow that has the 'pic attack' sound which I'm digging, it has made me go back and play with my EQ settings for the songs that I play with fingers plus dial the treble or bass settings as needed on the NS2. I like using a pic with the BEM neck for some reason...probably because its sealed! I'm wondering just how much the wood used for the neck matters, I mean the strings contact the frets not the wood and I can dial similar sounds on both the NS2 basses so the only difference is the Pau Ferro board is an open wood and the BEM is coated (sometimes I apply to much thought)????

So I finally put new strings on my Euro, the 603 ones, and I was immediately struck by inspiration. So I made this today. I think I'll change the guitar lines during the last few bars a bit to keep interest, but I'm pretty happy with it. Also that bass tone.

I feel ya!

I finally got my SVP-Pro back from the tech and the noise is gone. The good think about that is I can use the graphic EQ as a second channel so to speak. Main EQ=fingers, add graphic=pick. I mainly play with my fingers, but lately the attack of the pick has sounded sooo sweet.:bassist:

No pedals at all, straight from bass to interface. Rolled off 60hz, slight bit of compression.

On the bass itself, the pickups are active (knobs pushed in) trble is about 80%, bridge pickup 100% neck 50% and the bass knob is about 30% (all these measurements come with an -ish suffix) Brand new 603 strings. That's about it I think. I usually play pedalless, but recently have been into the split clean/slightly distorted high end tones. Might see if it works on this. :)
