Good news! I've also been using Mobil1 synthetic ever since I bought the car, and 140,000 miles later that factor alone seems to have saved the engine from seizing entirely; the shutdown caused by the friction/heat only busted the radiator and intake manifold, as well as screwing up the engine timing.

Still not the cheapest fix, but a fair sight better than a total engine rebuild. It'll be drivable again tomorrow, at which point I'll be bringing the bill back to Pep Boys...I may get to keep the Forte after all ;)

The funny thing is, I'm perfectly capable of changing my own oil, I just think that it's worth $18 to not spend the hour and deal with the mess of doing it myself. The same reason I don't have my mechanic do it actually; his time is more valuable than that.

Still hoping this story somehow has a good ending, I'll definitely keep you all posted.

I change my oil too but sometimes the deals out there are cheaper than the oil you buy at the store so I do not blame you at all for going to get it changed.. Glad you will keep the FORTE as well do not sell that puppy..

I started changing my oil as well...but...it's very hard to beat the deals when they offer the full service and fill up plus lube everything. I still ask if they checked all fittings and I want to see the old air filter (because I was once charged for a new one which was never replaced).

Hey guys, I'm thinking of having my NS-5MM modded for a second pickup just to have the option of adding a little beef. Here's the bass:

The pickup in it is a Bartolini, so what I was thinking of was one of the narrow soapbars like an X4 shape, not so much in the neck position, but close to the bridge pickup as I like the tightness and focus of pickups close together and near the bridge.

Firstly, thoughts on that pickup and position?

Secondly..my main concern is routing for it without doing any damage. I just couldn't handle that. There's no way I could do this myself so I would have a pro do it. Is it a fairly simple thing to route without chipping the edges or something?

Any thoughts on who could do this and a ballpark cost for just the routing?

Felt lined template. You could use a shop smith. Then you could raise the router off the body and run the template. A bit if a spendy machine for a most likely one time use though.

AHHHH!!! The bass that not only inspired the Spalt top of the fretless, but also was a big factor in me ordering a single MM pickup on my newest build! I've always loved your bass!

I'm thinking of doing the same, adding a J pickup, to my new 5MM. I think the MM is a beast of pickup, but I'd like some extra beef and tonal options. I'm going to get with Todd and PJ in the next week or two and see what the process is to have the guys in the NY shop add it for me.

The issue I'll have is trading out the OBP-3 for a 2 so I can keep the switch and 3knob config. I'd want it wired V,V,stacked B/T...which wouldn't really work with the 3 band.

I'd definitely appreciate it if you'd keep me/us updated on your progress with the mod. :bassist:

I did an interesting mod on one of my Jazz basses that I wanted to keep in a 3 knob format. I had John East custom make a preamp that had a vol/vol stack, neck bass/treb/bright stack, bridge bass/treb/bright stack and a three way (bridge, both, neck) switch. It works great, I like it more than my OBP-3.

First off THAT IS A BEAUTY right there WOW.. my thinking would be one of those SS pick ups like LEE just got in his SS...just s suggestion
