SPECTOR® Owners Club

Well my new Spector is here and I am blown away. The quilt on this one is truly unbelievable. It looks 3D!...like you could just lose your hand into a black cloud..In total awe. (edit: after further thought I am going to call it: The Black Cloud) It will ominously lurk over all who hear her and be haunted forevermore.

After extensive setup and new prosteels I am slowly getting the feel for the bass. I am blessed to own such a mean bit of gear. 2018 fit out is as good as I have ever seen. I noticed that they now run Gotoh's on the Euro series now and they have a separate battery compartment that is decent. Anyway In the second pic you can see that this one has to compete with to seriously awesome thumb basses but i have room in my heart for them all lol. One very happy man right here!View attachment 3184651

Nice bass...you definitely have a winner there...

Reactions: No Treble
I practiced last night for the first time in about 4 weeks. I was getting a lot overdriven type sounds. Clearer at upper frequencies, muddier at lower notes. Even with all effects bypassed.
My first plan today is new batteries. They are probably a year old. But I always keep the bass unplugged and even when I am playing it's usually with the preamp bypassed. Does a battery problem seem the most likely?
I have made no set up changes. The only gear change has been newer quality headphones. But nothing else.
Thanks.

It's a good possibility. If you don't have a way to check the voltage of the batter, change it out. Even though you may not be using it that much, batteries do tend to slowly lose power over time.

True here as well, though thankfully I have multiple projects with multiple tunings, so I at a bare minimum need 4 basses to cover everything :)
I keep 4 basses out with different tunings as I'm learning songs or practicing, I have rotated between the NS2 basses as well when performing with the band. The 5 string was purchased and used mostly while playing at church because of the vocalists changing the key of the songs, I have started to play at church again but it will only be once a month as the band has a lot on its plate.

Might take a look at a Keith McMillen Batt-O-Meter, it has been a life saver as well as a financial saver for me with 5 active basses and 4 pedals. I would change it as suggested by the guys if its been around for a year but sometimes you can disconnect and then reconnect if the bass has not been used as sometimes these batteries like to cause a problem...however, I remember that I used to like running my NS2A especially when the 9V was dropping out and I would notice a drain in tone right before the battery fired up before its last drain! lol

CTB fretless 4-string owners:

1) I'm curious as to what neck pickups you have, and why you chose what you did?
2) What strings are you liking on it?
3) For anyone who has upgraded to a 34" scale model, how are you liking it?

Looks like it comes stock with the Fishman piezo (passive) bridge pickup, Aguilar OBP-3 active tone controls and either EMG 35CS (active) or Aguilar DCB (passive) neck pickups (the price sheet just lists the Aguilar DCB, but the specs and write-up on the CTB page seem to list either one as standard choice...).

Me too. I need 4 minimum just to cover my gigs. The other 4....... :smug:

Thanks! Thanks Michael and Jack too. Batteries definitely helped. I think the larger problem is my 1996 dying Fender amp. Every time I power it up there is a noticeable increase in static and noise. I didnt notice as much yesterday.
When I went straight to the headphone out on my Zoom pedal it was clear as a bell.
We are only as strong as our weakest piece of gear.

Very true statement and they do make plenty of 9V batteries so this shouldn't become a problem for us...lol...oh, here is a story for you, I posted on Facebook that I was doing some maintenance in preparation for a show and listed the need for another package of 9V batteries...so, to my surprise someone who had been following along seen this and ran over to my drummers house to give him a 12 pack of 9V Energizer Industrial batteries! WOW, the power of communication I guess! lol

Think I need to communicate more...

Hey Spector experts! I currently have a 2005 NS-JH6 for sale in the classifieds and was wondering if my asking price is unreasonable. It is in mint condition with a brand new OBP-3 and fresh PLEK job. I'm asking $2150 Shipped but don't seem to have much interest from anyone here. Seems like a lot of Spectors have been sitting up for sale for long periods of time, minus some Euros that seem to move quick. I understand a 6'er is a harder sell and it may just take waiting for the right buyer. Just wanted to get some opinions on my pricing?
Thanks guys

Your price seem reasonable, but it's a 6'er so I'd be patient.

Thanks for the response. Figured it's just going to take awhile.

Just funny how some brands move so fast while others sit. If it was a Roscoe 6 it would probably be gone already.
Unfortunately, the American Bolt-On Neck basses don’t seem to hold their value as well. One of the club members, @Holdsg, is selling his BO neck 4 string for $950. There’s a 6 string on GC’s used website that’s going for $1499, and it’s been on there for a while.

Not a lot of 6 string players so it will take the exceptional guy I would guess...or, a tempting price that will attract someone who is wanting to give it a try!
