Is there a place that has descriptions of the tonal characters of the different EMG pickups?
Unfortunately no, not other than EMG's general descriptions, but at least they're adaptable enough that I can swap other in and out with relative ease.

While I don't expect my Euro Doug Wimbish Signature to be on par with a USA NS-2 by putting the Hazlab into it, I am saving for an American made, my thought is that I love this bass, I want to make it as awesome as possible, and someday when I get my American NS-2, I will have a great backup. I love the looks and feel of my Dougie (What I call my bass) and don't think I can get rid of it, but who knows, maybe once I play an NS-2 it will blow me away so much Dougie won't get much play, then I figure it will be easier to sell to someone in the know.
I am also playing with the idea of getting an American Bridge put on it, I like the idea of intonation screws, but I don't know if I want someone routing Dougie for it to fit...
JPSBassist said:Wait another day and you can order a replacement Euro Bridge with intonation screws. They're here. Just got clearance from PJ to list them on the SPECTOR site. So no need to route your "Dougie" for a USA. Put a new Euro bridge with intonation screws in it.![]()

Holy Jeepus!
Is this guy on crack?!![]()
Does that mean the older ones might be discounted/ clearanced? Interested in an older non screw us one possibly also.
JPSBassist said:No because the intonation screws are being added in the NY Shop. So the inventory will be converted over. There will be no left-overs. Ironically, the new basses will not have this bridge since it's actually an aftermarket Mod being done at the NY Workship.
What's the price on one of these puppy's? Any different from the current non modded ones?
My first guess is it's a fake.
It looks like a first generation Euro-Series body that's been refinished. There is some nice quilt to come out of the Euro shop...
The lack of copper shielding in the control cavity is greatly alarming. A Kramer would have had this. Thus the refinishing thought.
A dot neck Kramer would have been natural oil finish... NS-2O. Thus again, the argument for refinishing.
NO SPECTOR has ever been made with that bridge. It's a replacement. And you can see that it DOES NOT fit the body routing. The back edge of the bridge sits outside the route, looks like the inside has been filled in some and it's sitting a little off regarding being level...
A Kramer WOULD NOT have a BadAss style bridge.
In the refinish obviously the MADE IN USA Rubber Stamp would have been lost, but so would the Czech Shop Stamp.
NO KRAMER was ever made with Gotoh tuners. They should be Schaller Tuners. So these have been routed out to be larger to fit the larger shafted Gotohs.
In the closeup shot of the headstock. The Double-S is in the wrong position for a Kramer Model. They have the tendency to be closer to the top edge of the headstock, not lower center like this one.
In the closeup shot of the headstock, look at the large crack-like pores of the wood. That screams Euro and the European Rosewood they use for fingerboards. A Kramer would have had Pau Ferro which is a totally different color and has a totally different pore/grain pattern.
So it looks to me like someone took a Euro-Series (early Euro) SPECTOR, refinished it... put in a Haz circuit from a Kramer, changed the hardware to Gotoh's, not realizing that although the newer post 1998 models have Gotoh tuners, this model to be from 1986 (the date on the circuit... which means it's an authentic 9v Kramer-Era circuit in this puppy) it would have had Schallers and the larger (current shape/size) USA Bridge... not the Leo Quan. And the bridge that's on it isn't even the right style of Leo Quan... why? Because those types of Badass bridge are not made anymore and you can't buy them unless you come across one on Ebay or something.
My final thought is FAKE.

I agree with everything here, although my Kramer era NS2 had black shielding paint, not copper foil.My first guess is it's a fake.

I see it now, but it's highly incomplete. The eBay ns2 does have copper shielding , but it's only on the bottom of the cavity .
