But yeah the DDT's were a huge letdown for me. At the time I knew Skip was making his own strings (I've known him for quite a while from another forum) but when I finally got my first set back last Sept or Aug, they were total game-changers. It's what I've been searching for for years now.

Pretty much anything from Far Beyond Driven to afterwards was in C# std, tuned down 1/4 step from that (but that's close enough to play along by ear). And Brownie can attest to this on the back of her headstock! ;) Check it:

It's only 1.5 steps down, so really not that bad. And he used Medium Blue Steels so it can work if you get it set up right. :)

I dont remember when i noticed it... But i remember i remember once I got less "flop" with same gauge strings after working more on the set up.

...side note: I need to find a good tech.... Lol I hate changing strings and doing my own set ups...

haha i hear ya! after i get my bass set up and i'm using same strings, same tuning, etc., i don't think it's really necessary but i still do it. it always feels "off" when I try and DIY it! :(

haha... I think someone else could do the exact same set up that I would do.. but I wouldnt KNOW the little things because it wouldnt be something I notice during the setup at the back of my head.

Personally and just flat out being honest here, I much preferred Arms of the Sun to KDH but they both work... :)

Exactly!! I always come out of my own setup thinking I missed something or screwed it up, or whatever. It's probably 98% psychological but hey, it's relatively cheap and I don't need it really all that often so no biggie. ;)

Man, that picture just made me gasp :) I love the p-touch label with the tuning on the back of it, is it still on there?

I never understood why Pantera did the extra 1/4 step. Are there any tuners that can even tune you to that or is it pretty much a guess? Obviously you can tell I am new to this whole different tuning thing so thanks for all the info.

Oh, definitely! LOL my tech actually called and asked me the very first time I brought it in if I wanted him to take it off... I was like no no nononono!

Well I think it was just get that "extra dirty" sound. When I've tried it in the past, I just tune 1.5 steps, and then tune down to the last "tick" on my tuner and go from there. I think they both used Korg rack tuners, so from a practical standpoint it probably wasn't all that hard for their techs.

That is awesome! If he is with Gene Hoglan, that isn't much of a hint since Gene is in like 15 bands at the moment I think :) I just wish you could hear the bass a bit better since I liked that riff he was tapping.

I am not familiar with Marty's playing but he looks really good. I know he is in that We are the Fallen band but I wasn't really a fan of Evanescence so I didn't give them a listen. Maybe I should just to hear Marty.

Marty is awesome... I bet there's a lot of stuff you've heard that you wouldnt even have known he was on!
