Since it has the dot inlays and not the crowns, the Spector site says it was made in 2002-2004 and it has an Aguilar OBP-1 preamp installed so I can't wait to hear how it sounds. I am probably going to rip out the EMG HZ pickups and get 40DC's installed since I want it to have active pickups and if I don't like the OBP-1, I may throw an EMG BQC system into it since it has the 3 band EQ with mid control.

Anyone ever run flatwounds or groundwounds/halfwounds on a Spector with a Tonepump? I am just wondering how much growl I might lose. Right now I am doing a lot of playing getting up to speed for a new band with their original and cover songs and my fingers are sore. A lot of work still to do. I play a little on my sweet short scale Birdsong with flatwounds and it feels so good lol! Also wondering what different guage strings might do the trick. I can practice more on the Birdsong but really love that Spector growl plus thats going to be the one I use in gigs so it helps to practice on it.

Edit: Guess I should mention we will be doing rock and rock/metal toons.

Ronnietex, iceboxbass uses flats. I am sure he will respond with some great info. :)

The problem with the hole is that the Haz-copy preamp board covers that hole inside the control cavity, so there isn't space to put much of anything in there. I'm looking around to see if I can find some kind of plug or maybe just a wooden dowel to go in there

Wood dowel sounds like a good idea as long as it fits tight/flush/match woodgrain, and you can match the color/gloss.

Ronnietex...as LimaGuy mentioned, I use strictly flats on all of my SPECTORS. Also so does seventhframe. Ive tried rounds from different manuf. just this week I tried some DR Black Beauties they're coated nickels, didn't like them. I've used D'Addarrio chrome flats, okay but not quite the sound I like. I keep going back to GHS Precision ground Stainless Steel Flatwounds. I've used them for over 3 years now, you don't lose the SPECTOR growl, IMO, it makes the growl a lot more noticeable. They have a big sound. Plus they are smooth as silk! You can play for hours & hours and not have bloody sore fingers. They have a very longevity. I've not had any troubles with dead spots. I play in 2 bands, they're both are Christian Rock bands. One is really quite rocky! I dig into the GHS's pretty hard and they keep on taking it!
A friend of mine plays in a local Rock cover band, plays a 72 Fender P bass and swears by the same strings too. Been using nothing else for years. Sounds like you already like flats so put on your SPECTOR! You'll not regret it!

P.S. If anyone's interested, I have a set of DR BB's with about 2 hours of playing time on them FS! PM me! I'll make ya a great deal!!! :D

Sorry guys about going off thread subject but I need to know...there are others here that I've seen that use iPhones on TB. I know there's issues with the TB APP but are any of you having problems on the regular TB site that are using the new iOS 5 update? I've been having problems with not getting to the posted YouTube links on threads here. Just get the white blank page. I've reported it this morning.
Again...I apoligize guys for derailing here. :hiding:

Basscentral had a bunch of older "New Stock" Euros LX's.
If you look at the ser# its NB90**

I purchased my Blk Euro4 LX from them for a discounted price back in in April 2011. The ser# is NB91** and PJ confirmed it was made sometime in early 2010.

The bass was never touched, it was stored and boxed in the back, not a floor model. So its a great deal.

This is most likely the same type of situation.

100% agree on this. I seriously came close to buying this instead of ordering the Forte.
I love that Red Matte Finish.

I bought one. I asked why and they said they got a special deal. I don't know about being older. My serial number is NB9259. It has the TW pickups.

The Fix-----
You can cut a piece of wooden dowel rod to fill the hole, then use furniture scratch repair pens to recolor it to match.
You may have to drill the hole a tad bigger to fit the dowel if it's between sizes available.
