Hey JP, do you have the neck measurements for the Rebop5 and Rebop5 DLX? Im seriously looking into both, but not having any to try (the only shop that carries Spector in Montreal doesnt keep them in stock) I would need measurements to compare to my Euro 5XL.

Also, Ive been hearing the neck dive issue, which model does it apply to? How bad is it?

I haven't measured any ReBop models to date. Mainly because I haven't had my hands on any. I will be measuring the rest of the current Spector Models at NAMM in January.

I don't want to speculate too much, but if the ReBop follows the standard Spector bolt-on vs. neck-thru trend... the neck on the ReBop should be slightly thinner (front to back) than the Neck-Thru Euro5LX model.

The neck dive issue was reported with the older ReBop and ReBop DLX models. I haven't heard anything concerning the new DLX-FM and EX models. I also think this was because those older models had thicker necks... which made them heavier.

And for the record, I have neck-dive issues with my USA NS-4 if I'm wearing a slick shirt and have a slick strap on. So again, I've taken a lot of the "neck dive" talk at face-value. I think the strap and the type of shirt you are wearing as well as your playing style and preferred placement of your bass are very important variables.

How come Rebops are not reaily available? I'm interested in the DLX-FM to complement my 4LX. I know Bass Central has one but why don't big box stores (MF, zZounds, Music123, AMS, etc.) have them?

Check GC website. They always have several used Rebops in the used bass area.

A question that unfortunately I don't have an answer for. The stores that have contracts with us can stock/not stock what ever best suits their sales focus. Except for the USA Stocking Dealers. They have to keep a minimum number of USA models in stock at all times. But even then we don't tell them which USA models to stock... so it can be anything from Forte models to Coda models, NS-Neck-Thru or Bolt-Ons, even our USA Electric Guitars.

Probably, if I was to give my best educated guess (I have friends who manage/own guitar/music stores)... is that stock is determined by looking at orders for the previous 12 months. You determine your most likely sales prospects based on predicting what you need from looking at what you've already sold.

If none of our dealers close to your location have any in stock, I'd suggest looking at some of our larger USA Stocking Dealers (Invalid Link Removed) and seeing what they may have.

Hi everyone!

I just finished a little project. I was playing around in my home studio and decided to redo an older NIN song. So I recorded everything over but the drum track.

I was field-testing my new HD video camera... and I decided to put a "music video" together. I won't bore you guys with the cinematography technical stuff on this camera or the shoot. But holy cow this footage looks great considering I did it without a crew and with only one studio light (a 2x2 softbox... 500w tungsten bulb).

Anyway. It's basically a SPECTOR-PORN video.

Mine too. That and "The Beginning of the End". It was a pretty political album in a much more overt way than some of his other works... which are usually more personal.

Big fan. I've learned most of his catalog. I "discovered" my love of his music back with "The Downward Spiral" He is a brilliant musician/writer IMHO. And his live shows are excellent.

Yes: #420: I haven't played one but I can tell you first hand that PJ Rubal told me that one of the best sounding USA Bolt-Ons he's ever heard was a dual MM 18v custom that came out of the shop about 4 months ago.

I think the MM and "J" combo are a good match, being that the MM is so wide (aperture). And of course I like Stingrays, so a single MM USA Bolt on with the Aguilar Pre... very curious to hear one and compare.

I've heard nothing but positives about the MM pup option.

#428: Obviously Ebony is a little brighter. It's going to cost a little more and you HAVE to care for it. It becomes brittle over time if you don't keep it conditioned. So Ebony boards are known to crack... although I've never heard of one on a Spector. PJ Rubal's main performance/playing bass is a Brooklyn NS-2, solid black with Ebony Fingerboard. He's had it since the mid-1980's. And it's doing just fine.

And I'm pretty sure Sting's famous white NS-2 is an Ebony Fingerboard model.

I am seriously considering making my next USA Spector an Ebony fingerboard model. I personally love the tone and durability of the Pau-Ferro, but really like the darker contrast of wood to inlay and body you get with the Ebony.

With an ebony fretboard. Thats a decision already made .

But I'm still not sure wether or not to implement the MM.
I rarely use the bridge PU on my Rebop5 and I practically never use it soloed. I just love the Neck PU and mainly use the Bridge to make the sound a little richer. 100% neck + 50% bridge is my standard setting for most of the time.
I played one MM-only Bass in the past an I kinda liked the sound...

Oh well. Can anyone help me on this decision?
The 40-TW in neck position is not going anywhere btw, I just love that sound

Closer. Getting the filters right to get the studio sound... I've not figured it out yet... but I haven't put a lot of time into it.

TR uses the bass to agument the melody... his approach to using the bass is straight-forward but sometimes a little unorthodox... which is why he is who he is. A lot of his basslines are in drop-D.

Some fun ones are:
"Dead Souls" Originally by Joy Division. His take on this bassline is deeper and pretty cool.

"The Big Come Down" Just pure bass. Nice and simple bassline, but very effective.

"Where is Everybody" (original off "Fragile") Another great example of how he uses the bass. He loves distorted basses instead of lead guitars. Or drop-C on the lead guitar. Which is what the video I just posted calls for.

"Deep" is another fav.

And believe me, "The Good Soldier" is actually pretty difficult. You have to mute the A and D strings between and all around the main bass notes, which are pretty simple, but you have to keep your timing right to get the muted clicks (ghost notes) for the rhythm. It took a couple of days of me noodling with it to get it down. I think TGS is one of the harder basslines really.

Number 1 according to who? Billboard? Rolling Stone? The Grammy's? There are dozens of #1 songs and albums for any given year depending on the source(s).

I'd rather have the MM in the Bridge and the 40-TW in the Neck position. Well that was the original plan at least.

Hows that MM in the brige position?

I love it! The 2 pups in single mode sound really nice. Put them in dual coil and it will blow you out the door. If I am mixing the 2 I like to use the bridge as an MM at about 3/4 and the neck as a single full on. This produces a nice tone with a ballsy low end.
The only downside of having 2 MMTW's is they hog up a lot of space!
