That's a Spector NS2a that's been upgraded to EMG's. They sound great with that preamp, very close to my US NS-2. That's a pretty good price with the upgrade....I'd definitely go check it out and see how it plays...

Hold on there.....

NS2A, Yes.
Upgraded EMG's? I don't think so.
That looks to be partially rubbed off logos (the picture resolution isn't good enough to tell whether they are EMG-Selects or Spectors, not that it matters as they were basically both EMG-Hz's anyway).

If they were actual EMG's the markings would be on the other side/end of the pickup covers.

It's a stock NS2A with an average price.

What woods were the NS2A's made of? Are they similar to the modern Legend lines (other than being neck-through)? Or closer to the Euros?

I've been planning to get a Euro (used) with my tax return, but saw this one and am curious.


The ad says it has EMG's, and I know the originals came with the "Spector" branded pickups - but you're right, the brand seems to be on the wrong side...

Spector or EMG Selects. Both the same pickup. Different covers.
They were reported as Maple like an NS2, but I have never found an NS2A that was nearly as heavy as either my NS2 or Czech NS basses. :hmm:

Higher quality than Legends, although Legends are now Maple also.

It looks good from the ad. I'd make sure that the neck is OK. I'd also look for excessive fret wear. These older Kramers... many need fret-jobs now. Which isn't a big deal... but remember about the cost and the cost of the repairs.

I'll never get rid of my NS-2A because it's the only fretless I have. But also because after putting over $600 into it on top of the $400 or so I paid for it... I'll never get my money back out of it.

So if you don't mind making this a keeper... then the $100 bucks for active EMG's and whatever else you may have to do (like a refret)... then by all means... it's a great guitar.

The NS-2A is (to me) the nicest Korean Spector. They were well made with bodies that were identical to the USA models at the time (the Euro Models are not identical to the USA Models... but close). The wood isn't near the same quality. It's maple, but not quilt or really high quality. The electronics inside were a pretty good copy of the famous HazLab SPECTOR Circuit. The Passive EMG made SPECTOR pups were basically the forerunner of the HZ line. Not bad, but for that true SPECTOR sound you'll want active EMGs in there.
And of course the bridges were made of aluminum and were smaller than the USA models.

To me they are about 80% of what the Euro models are today.

I say go for it... so long as the electronics aren't stuffed.

MAN! That's some funny stuff. Love the reference... one of my favorite SNL skits. Any of the "Lonely Island" stuff.

"Like a Boss" is another classic.

AND BTW!!! PJ confirmed with me today... the order for my Tube Quilt NS-2 is in the system!

So picture Todd's bass, but in Transparent Black on Black stain. :-) It's going to be KILLER looking.

And Todd's NS-2 had one of the nicest necks I've ever played. If Todd hadn't have already purchased it... I would have.
