I do this too. Most of the time I play I'm sitting... so I usually put the body curve over my right leg. I'm 6'2" and my wife will tell you I have monkey arms... LOL... so my left(fret) hand isn't usually an issue.
I find I have to cheat the bass a little to the right to get a comfortable position with my right hand.

I was trying to save up for a Legend 5 (being a broke college student and all) and this contest came up on metalsucks.net. They were giving away a Legend 5 autographed by my favorite band, d'addario strings, merch, some planetwaves stuff, and signature drumsticks. It could not have come at a better time, I'm really fortunate. It's been such an amazing resource for me at college and with my various bands, and I could not possibly thank Spector enough for giving the bass away.

Ok so I'm paranoid, having brought my main bass to a tech to have some delicate work done. I've done all my own work on all my instruments as long as I've been playing, and built a few of them too, none have EVER been to a tech. The bass in particular has the 9V Tone Control (or Haz copy as some call it) from an NS-2A (not sure if any other basses used this preamp, the seller only knew it was a bass preamp and nothing else about it) which was designed for passive pickups, and is THE best preamp I have used and I love the sound of this bass dearly.

That being said, is there anything available to replace it should it be damaged? I'm REALLY paranoid that some accident will befall my baby while its at the tech, so I'm just looking for options should Murphy's Law take effect. :scowl:

I know the USA 9V Tone Control is available but I'm sure that's made for use with EMG pickups, not the passives I have in my bass. :help:

I just turned the tone pump down to roughly 50% as per advise in this thread and holy cow this thing turned into a growling machine. And I'm playing through a really smooth rig: Demeter 201s pre and a bergantino NV 215 and it still growls like a mofo. I think I need a tissue.

These gus were very helpful and great to deal with. They spent about 45 minutes helping me look for a "good" piece of wood for this project...

They have all the usuals and a huge selection of exotics...
Zebra, purple heart, ebony, Blackbean, jatoba, Pau Ferro, snakewood, bubinga (not ebony), Spalted beech, etc..
Check em out online gilmerwooddotcom. :cool: (not a plug, just info on a great instrument wood source)

There is a guy there that is a guitar builder and very knowledgeable about instrument woods and Spector basses.
After some questions about what tones I liked and what pups, body and fretboard woods were used....
he showed me a few options, "pinged" a few samples till he found one (African Blackwood) that "sounded" really good.
To bring out some of the low end, he suggested a mahogany strip. Pinged a few of those and found one with a well rounded tone. I have it here now.:)

He's gonna take some time Saturday and swing by and see what I have going on and help with a jointer since I don't have one... yet.;)

JPS, change of plans... aye?:cool:

5/8" strip of Mahogany to bring some lows out of the solid Maple, yes?

As far as the Robbie debate.....
Any artist (anyone FTM) that takes the time to sit one on one and teach someone else something
(in person or on skype, by video, whatever) deserves some respect and is OK in my book - ;)
even if I don't particularly care for their genre of music, which for me is mostly rap, sorr... no I'm not.
It's my Right to not like something/someone, but not to disparage it/them unprovoked.:eyebrow:
That said... afaiac, respect is earned not owed/given.
It can take years to earn but, can be lost in an instant. :cool:

IMO there's no "debate" about who/what/why is "good" or "not"- he mentions JB which is awesome. I've been jamming to his solo bass stuff for YEARS. However, how useful is it to the average bar bassist or guy playing alt rock like Robbie? Yeah, two-handed harmonic theories on a fanned fret 11 string is way awesome in the right hands, but to me? Yeah, I'm struggling to be heard in the mix. I wonder if this kid would be still whining if JB was going over Nuclear Rabbit basslines instead of solo work?? Hrmmm... :hmm::hmm:

Fact is, Robbie seems to be very accessible for being the mega-star he and his band are, which is awesome. Of all the Spector artists, besides Rex, he's the guy who most fits with what I do musically and I'm sure this extends to many more people than me. If Inez was a Spector only dude that would be awesome as his pick technique (along with Starr's) had a huge influence on me and many others.

Again, PJ and the AR people aren't stupid. Robbie is a good pick. What you see here is success butthurt that pervades most forums, which is sad, coming from most self-proclaimed "adults". I saw the lessons on Facebook and was already psyched before JPS posted it here.

Exactly. I'm going to say anyone who has a real record deal and is a multi-platinum artist, I can learn a thing or two from... even if it's not strictly about playing bass!! :idea: :idea:

There's way more that goes into being a pro musician with 5 major label releases under your belt than sight reading.

Sweet! Just curious to how it differs in sound from the 9 volt USA circuit? I'm thinking of getting one to put in my NS-2000/4 that i am refinishing/upgrading.

I have a tonepump to put in it, but i may go with something a bit different and i have heard a few of these 18 volts on youtube that sounded pretty kick a$$
