Spector Club Pt. 3 (Insert Clever Title Here)

I really like it's tonal versatility, I have yet to find a timbre that I can't get out of it. The ability to switch between high and low mids is great- need to stand out? boost the high mid. Have the urge to play some slap? cut the low mids a bit.
Second, it really comfortable to play. There are times I'm playing that I'm not really conscious of having an instrument in my hands. It sort of lets me speak through it.
Lastly, they're beautiful. Not NT beautiful, but stunning none the less. All I need to do is look at it and I want to play it. A perfect fusion of function and aesthetics.

I was thinking about making this question its own thread, but figured a "Spector" audience might be more helpful (if i am derailing, so sorry). I recently acquired a Rebop off ebay. One thing I did not catch in the photos is that the dot inlays (one of the first rebops) are more and more off center as you go towards the nut. #17 looks fine, #3 is really off. I emailed PJ about it to see if its something he has seen before and the email exchanges ended with him telling me it might have been a worker's last day on the job (I am sure he was joking, I don't think Stuart would be cool with lazy employees, even if they are in another country). Has anyone seen this with other Rebops and if so, did you have it fixed?

Do you have photos or a link to the ebay auction so we may see what you are talking about.
I owned a pre-DLX ReBop (Dot vs. Crown inlays, All-Alder vs. Alder/Maple body) for a brief period of time before I came upon a killer deal for my "ZeBop" (aka the Zebrawood-topped ReBop DLX EX Exotic Tops) but I have nothing negative to say about them - AFAIK they were built as well as every other Spector, and I just happened to come upon a great deal or else I'd still might own it... and very well might still one day as the basis for my "Effects Bass" (a combination of Dave LaRue's Kramer NS-2 with a Kahler trem with my idea of a Bass Sustainer for clean "cello"-type tones and distorted "Infinite Sustain" sounds, stripped down and refinished with a "Kameleon" color-shifting paint job).
I'm not sure what PJ can physically do for you - you did purchase a used bass out of warranty and I'm guessing that all the bolt-on dot necks are long gone - but PJ is a stand-up guy in every sense of the word and I'm sure than if there's something Spector *can* do for you, he'll make it so.
Yeah, PJ is awesome. He helped me get some info on the bass before I purchased it. I understand the warranty thing. I just wanted to know if he had seen this before and if it could be easily corrected (out of my own pocket, by a closeby luthier). The neck is straight, plays great (needs a lil fretwork). I tried to shim the neck in the pocket but the fit is way to tight.
Well, from a distance I don't really see the problem.

You know a perfectly centered dot will appear slightly closer to the A string simply due to the larger diameter of the fatter A, when compared to the D. And as the string spacing widens heading toward the bridge, the effect would be less noticable. Can't tell if this is the case, but using a ruler to see if the dots are centered might be a good idea

Ok, home now. Took a pic (new camera, so sorry if it isn't the right size/resolution). With the flash flooding the area with light it doesn't look as bad, but I don't walk around with a flood light on my head (though, I wish I could). It just bothers me. Checked with calipers, dead center on the board, about 22.1mm center to each edge. I really think the pocket is off. PJ did tell me that a lot of handwork is involved. So, get pocket modified (the correct fix), larger inlays (bandaid), or stickers (again, bandaid)? I know I should just forget about it and just rock it, but, damn, it just bothers me.

Loosen the neck and see if you can move the neck over. I had to do that with the Legend I have. You might not see any space in the pocket but the neck will move over enough to fix that.
First thing I tried (have successfuly done this with a number of guitars and basses). The heal-to-pocket fit is tight, no feeler gauge would fit. Thats why I think the pocket is off. And, please let me know if I should start a new thread (I dont want to detour the club thread). Does anyone know, or can come up with, a procedure to see if the pocket is straight with respect to the body? Center of bridge as the first point, but what do I use as a reference further down to check the pocket's overall position and orientation?
OK, I will play. This is the most recent NS5XL I have. I have to admit, I love the Hazlab in my other Spectors, but this beast sounds amazing.
Man, that thing is beautiful! I'd love to own an NS5-XL one day.
Looks like the strings are a little shifted toward the treble side of the fretboard... I'd say it's a bridge placement issue. I'd say the quickest, cheapest fix would be to have someone reslot your saddles slightly north of the factory slots.
