The negativity and bashing in that Forte thread is crazy...
It seems like a lot of people who dislike Spector are just bashing all over it...

2) I wouldn't go as far as calling the responses negative or bashing (maybe because I'm part of the accused
). It's just that many of us would expect something a little different. Spector as a brand is quite different from what many would consider the bass "norm" so we feel as though they shouldn't need to resign themselves to the norms of the bass industry i.e. releasing many VERY similar models at slightly varied price points and/or having a set number of models and not necessarily improving on any of them with each new release.Blame it on our assumptions of Spector being a "different" bass company and on trends of the market, namely the customer being able to get more of what they want from what they buy. We just want to see a little variation is all. Spectors have been virtually unchanged for at least a decade. On second thought, considering the introduction of the budget models (the Q and Legend) that may not be totally true but with regards to the higher end stuff it is.
The three biggest things that I would love to see come out of Spector are 1) A deeper lower cutaway for better full-fretboard access. 2) A single new body style (the differences between the USA Bolt-on, the neck thrus, and the Legends doesn't count to me), and 3) other preamps being standard options not special orders, as in they would be made like that without having being ordered by a customer.
To me, those are things I thought, and still do think will come naturally at some point. When I can't say, but of all the things Spector would do I thought that one of these would be it (or offering 34" scale on 5s and 6s again). You may say "Well you're one person" and I am, but I've heard the same thoughts from many other Spector players so I can't be totally off base in my assumption. I can't imagine that the guys up at Spector haven't considered these ideas themselves.
Anyway, for all I know one of these things could be announced officially at NAMM so maybe we've got something to really look forward to. The 19mm spacing option sounds like a pretty big step to me and I'm glad that it's being made available because that's also something I've heard a bunch of from Spector players (though I dig the spacing myself). That alone has widened there market because there are many bassists who just need that wider spacing.
Bassically speaking, it's not that we want more, because they've given us that, it's that we want different because that's what Spector is!
). They are made by a man named John East from the UK. I was suggested to the idea by another contributor in this thread by the name of Wraithrider (sp?) who has had success with his work already.
