Spector Euro 5lx

I bought the 2020 Spector Euro 5lx in the black matte finish and was wondering if the Spector NS bridge would fit in this and I am thinking about changing the pre amp. It has the emg tws in it. But then again this bass is awesome as it is. I just love upgrading and if it can be better I would love to make it better. Also I noticed the NS has Gotoh B11 tuners and this has Gotoh 707 tuners. What's the difference and should I upgrade those as well?

No, the U.S.A. bridge will not fit.

You could upgrade the preamp with a Spector Haz circuit. You just have to make the pot shaft holes bigger. But then you wouldn’t be able to fully use the EMG TWS pickups, unless you added switches for it.

Not worth changing the tuners.

No problem.

As far as the Haz is concerned, that is subjective, as everyone prefers different tones. To me & most others it is a drastic upgrade, even for those of us who love the TonePump too. Their is no mid control with the Haz, but it will bring out more of the midrange growl.

How is the HAZ compared to the EMG pre amp? Can't think of the brand bqs or something like that lol lol. I had one in my old bass that I installed and the was awesome. But I want the best I can for the Spector. Nostrand pick ups was talking to me about making a pick up and pre amp, but I'm not to sure about going the drastic of a change. I work at United Wire and supply all the wrap wire for D'Addario, Martin, E.O.Mari (which is Labella Strings) and many other companies so I talk to a lot of companies but I don't have a connection with anyone at Spector yet. I did get my Spector directly from the Chec factory though through Ish Guitars in Syracuse NY. Beautiful bass. I don't want to lose the Spector sound. But improvements without having to buy a NS I will do. Sorry, rambling a bit

I’m personally not a fan of the EMG pre’s, that would be a downgrade, & it will take you further away from the Spector sound, not closer. They are a more sterile preamp. The HAZ is an extremely superior preamp! The TonePump is a better pre as well.

I love Nordstrand pickups & my next Spector build will have them, but for you I would probably leave the pickups you already have, since you already love them, & put Nordstrand’s in your next one.

Thank you! Any way I could go through Spector directly? Hmmm..... Just had a idea. I do live in NY.. maybe I will set up a appointment I drive there with my bass and see what they can do for me. Are they starting to use Norstrand? I had to turn the tone pump down a little when I bought it. Hoping I don't lose any tone by doing that. I use the Ampeg SVT 4 pro head and 8x10 Ampeg classic and also have the 4x10 Ampeg with the horn so the amp takes care of the Mid I guess.

I don’t believe they will work on anything but new builds out of the U.S.A. factory, as they have a small crew.

Nordstrand’s are not a normal pickup used by them, but they will use most anything upon request for U.S.A. builds.

It is completely normal to turn down the trim on the TonePump, as it is an extremely powerful preamp. You won’t lose tone unless you turn it down too far.

Ah, nice! Yes, I am familiar with Ish, they always have some nice ones.

I know Stuart personally as well, as I have been an artist for Spector for a long time. Stuart is best! He & PJ sold the company two & a half years ago to Korg U.S.A., as he wanted to retire. The U.S.A. shop is still going strong, but obviously with knew owners comes new rules about what they will & won’t do. It’s always worth a shot.

No prob, any questions feel free to ask. & welcome aboard! There is a Spector Owners club section here on Talkbass, so you might want to follow that, now that you are Spector player.

How many Spector basses do you own? This is my first and I can't get over the clarity and tone. I love the growl too and punchiness. But it sounds great even without a amp. Has to be the wood and the way it's built. Just seems like there's more it can do with a few upgrades. Weird to say cause I love it now. Just going to have to get the HAZ and see what happens lol

Currently I have 9 Spector’s. I have played countless others from every era too. Spector’s build quality the woods used are second to none! Tone, clarity, growl, harmonics, sustain, punch, etc…. Super versatile basses that have it all. Best necks out there, & most comfortable body shape too. You’ll absolutely love the HAZ, it’s so he greatest pre out there. Pickup wise without changing brands, the X series EMG’s sound more natural & are what are currently used as the standard U.S.A. basses.

Well I need knew strings, so get to work! Haha. That’s an early work day….
We have been shipping around 80,000 pounds of wire a month since covid. Mostly nickel plated steel and mostly to D'Addarrio. D'Addario had beat their record month in sales by a amazing 30 million dollars after the first stimulus checks went out. And they are continuing to have record sales every month so please stop buying strings so I can stop working Fridays again and just do 4 ten hour days lol. What strings do you use?

I am a very long time user & artist for Daniel Mari Strings! Daniel is the son of Olinto Mari, one of brothers that owned & operated LaBella strings & brought them to America. His sister Elisabetta inherited E. & O. Mari/LaBella after their father Olinto died, & later they had a family disagreement & Daniel went off on his own under the name Daniel Mari Strings & helped other companies. Daniel is 94 years old now, & sadly his health has not been well(I will be talking to a mutual friend to get an update on Daniel soon), so regretfully I will need to find a new brand of strings to use. I have played everything, & Daniel’s strings are the best & longest lasting strings I ever played!
