Spector Euro 5lx

I am a very long time user & artist for Daniel Mari Strings! Daniel is the son of Olinto Mari, one of brothers that owned & operated LaBella strings & brought them to America. His sister Elisabetta inherited E. & O. Mari/LaBella after their father Olinto died, & later they had a family disagreement & Daniel went off on his own under the name Daniel Mari Strings & helped other companies. Daniel is 94 years old now, & sadly his health has not been well(I will be talking to a mutual friend to get an update on Daniel soon), so regretfully I will need to find a new brand of strings to use. I have played everything, & Daniel’s strings are the best & longest lasting strings I ever played!
Some of his wire comes from my work too. Doesn't he split the building or house with his brother and they are separate now? Just sent E.O. Mari a bunch of wire yesterday. They buy our nickel, brass, stainless steel, flat 430 stainless and flat pure nickel, lots of silver plated copper and pure silver and sterling silver.... Sometimes Dan buys wire, but not much lately and now I know why. I just started trying some tapered B and E string set from Fender strings that sounds amazing on the Spector. D'Addario also makes Fender strings now. D'addario is probably the largest string manufacture now. Ernie Ball makes their own wire so we haven't been able to sell to them yet. Very cool process we have with old German draw machines and modern annealers. You would be surprised at the process this wire goes through. Our company keeps the dip a secret cause it gets the best results. I will have to send you some pictures.

Very nice! That’s pretty cool.

Daniel made the original strings for Ernie Ball back in the day, & a few others. Daniel would do custom sets for me & taper my strings, & make whatever gauge I wanted.

I was talking to my boss and he said he is a little guy with a ton of cool stories about the wars etc etc and that they definitely don't work in the same building. Said lots of good things about him. Guess they went out to eat a lot together. Dan use to bring wire to guys garages and they made their strings for him at their houses.

In case you’re still looking for info or guidance on installing a HAZ preamp, I posted about my experience installing one in my Euro5 LX. If you’re confident with a chisel or dremel, you’ll be fine.

OPEX - Installed HAZ 9V in Spector Euro5 LX

I’ve since also replaced the stock EMG 40DC pickups with a 40P5 in the neck and a 40J in the bridge. It’s basically a 5-string NS-2, in terms of the tone I get out of it.
Good luck!

No problem.

As far as the Haz is concerned, that is subjective, as everyone prefers different tones. To me & most others it is a drastic upgrade, even for those of us who love the TonePump too. Their is no mid control with the Haz, but it will bring out more of the midrange growl.
Late response is there a way to get that growl without going so Deep
To work on the pre like pedal preamp? I have the darkglass preamp so a lot diff I’m tryin to get the tone the 4 string Spector euros have with the true Pj setup

Darkglass circuitry is totally different, it will never be the same. To me the Darkglass stuff highly colors the tone to be what the circuit is & takes away from the natural tone of the woods.

What Spector are you playing? Because no matter what any tries telling you the kinds of woods used & build absolutely matter. From there I can let ya know if it’s possible to get even remotely near that tone you are looking for.
