Spector vs music man bass

Torn on what next bass I should get. Just want some options. I’m gonna drop about 2500 on one. Never spent that kinda $$$ on a bass. I’m currently use a fender jazz squire. The 600 $$$ one I like it but what more punch. I’m using a gallien Kruger 1200 with one 4/10 and 2/10 cabs. Also wondering should I go with 1 /15 cab ?

You’re going to get the same advice that everyone gets when asking a similar question.
Play them both if possible and see which one you like.
It’s good advice.

I also understand that it may not be possible for you to do so.
I’m that case you are going to get subjective opinions based on others preferences.
They’re both great instruments.
Try Out one of each if you can

I’m partial to Music Man myself (for what it’s worth)

I’m only guessing here, but maybe that’s how much the OP has budgeted for a new bass and has narrowed it down to a Spector (euro) or Music man
Seems like a reasonable conclusion, but I still wonder why $2500. Are used basses ruled out? Are the cabs in question included in the proposed budget? Specificity would help give more nuanced suggestions.

although buying used makes perfect sense for me (that’s what I do) , some folks just want a shiny new instrument and I can’t fault anyone for that

Someone's got to buy the new instruments for there to be used ones :D

I'm a Spector player myself and the Euros are worth every penny (I've read the lower priced Legends are no slouches, either), but I say try a bunch of instruments to see what is a good fit for you.

If you've only played a Squire, there are a ton of other options to check out.

I have a Czech made Spector. It was made before they started calling it Euro. I loved it so much I bought two more. They were a little newer and not at all as good. (avoid the tone pump preamp IMO)I have heard that the newest ones are better and more comparable to the early ones, but I don't know for sure. I also have two Stingrays, and have owned a couple of others. They are all great basses, so while I personally would go Stingray if I could only have one, it comes down to what everyone else has probably said. Try them both...

Not that I'm normally one to talk someone out of a purchase, but since you like your Squier jazz, have you considered a pickup swap or adding a preamp?

Lots of options available to get more punch and that platform is normally an easy one to mod.

I have a spector euro and love it. If you go that route, you should be able to pick up a used one in the $1500 range depending on your location.

Good Luck!

Spector is gonna offer more flexible options. You can get a P/J or soapbars and those soapbar pups can be P, J, or dual coil internally. You could mix and match, series/parallel or coil tap them. You can swap pickups and preamp whenever your bands or tastes change. With the MM Stingray you get basically that one Humbuker tone. That tone rules but it's more of a one trick pony. There's not a lot of difference to be had by swapping MM electronics. Even so, I own a 94 MM Stingray b/c it's awesome but it's not my only bass.

Fender PJ. Or Fender PJ Squire :)

You should get another 8ohm 410. You'll have far more punch, and your speakers will thank you for not over loading a little 210 with the same force you're sending to a 410. Which is drowning out the 210 anyway, and not really contributing to your rig in any way other than stealing half your 410s power.

The ergonomics of the Euro Spector I had was awesome. The most comfortable bass I think Ive ever had. Unfortunately i didnt bond with the tone I got from it. I have a Stingray now too and while its bigger and heavier, it kills. Just works so well in my band and I get comments on the tone all the time. As the others have said, you could go used and if you get some good deals, you may be able to get both.

With a Stingray (which I’m *guessing* is what you mean) you know pretty much what you’re getting. You can hear them everywhere. Awesome bass, no surprises. With the Spector, well there are bolt-ons and neck through, tone pump and not tone pump. Those things make lots of difference so you need to be sure what you’re getting. FWIW the most recent Spector I tried was a neck through without Tone Pump. It was super, crazy bright. I absolutely loved it but I’m not sure how well it would fit with my needs and I didn’t buy it. I’ve heard plenty of guys sound fabulous with the tone pump, but the one I tried (admittedly it was years ago) sounded a bit horrible to me. Anyway I’d say get what you like but absolutely definitely try the Spector, buying one without hearing it in your own hands (they are super responsive to how you play) seems risky to me.

As a personal, fairly useless comment, I say get a Stingray. But then my answer to any question is “get a Stingray”.

So ..... kinda ignore me. There, happy to help. No need to thank me.

if you're playing a squier jazz, which one are you playing?

I have had a number of Spectors (all Rebops and Euros) and my main is currently a Musicman Stingray Special. The Spector basses were fantastic, very ergonomic and comfortable. Many pickup options too if you like tweaking your tones.

The Stingray is much more chunky. The Musicman sound is my absolute favourite though (very punchy) and I love the wider neck feel. The Spectors may be a better option if you like slimmer necks.

Heads up - The Stingray Specials are also much lighter and more ergonomic than the previous models and will help bridge the gap in that department. May be able to find a few secondhand deals on them by this point.

Conclusion - can't go wrong either way, I will jump on the try before you buy train.
