Spector vs. Warwick for first "modern" bass?

You do realise that you're comparing a top of the line ($4000) HH Warwick with a mid grade ($2000) PJ Spector, right? Have you tried a comparable Spector?

My NS-5H2 has no problem with the active, modern tone that you're talking about- And then some.

I was just compairing the two, because the one guy said they're the same. And the Spector I picked to show, was the one the original poster had been looking at.
So, yes the Streamer will probably be more $ then maybe even the top of the line Spector.
Those look like single coil jazz type pickups on the Warwick. Unless they're stacked humbuckers? Do they make a Spector with Jazz style pickups?

He mentions that cost is an issue, so the Stage II is probably out of reach. Maybe look at a Thumb, short upper horn, but tone for days. Just get a wide leather strap, and wear it higher ;^)

which spector and which warwick? there is a LAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE difference between Legend and Euro and USA.

both basses have modern sound... I was playng on Warwick Streamer 4lx and Spector euro 4dlx-35 (both PJ) i think that spector is more bright and agressive.

and i think Spector is prettiest than Warwick

I would definitely say go Spector unless you have the cash to spring for a Streamer and that's only if you can get used to the neck shape (basically a trapezoid with rounded edges. can't stand it). Spectors feel, sound and look pretty amazing once you get past the smallness of the body.

Personally, the only big tonal difference between models is between the Legends, ReBops, and Euro LX. The Euro LX and USA models (with the exception of the ones with 2 jazz pups) sound very similar and considering the price difference the USA wouldn't be worth the cost IMO. I don't care much for the legends because they sound really trebly to to me. The ReBop sound good and they're some of the lightest basses around which is awesome. I was told that they were supposed to sound like jazz basses but I don' think they do it well at all. With a pickup change you might get a little more out of it. I liek the Euro LXs best because it's everything that the other two models offer but more of it and better overall. They have this really beefy, growly tone that works great for a lot of stuff but you can always tone it down to play something that doesn't require such aggressive tones like jazz or reggae. I play in a jazz band so I think that says a lot about their versatility.

I owned a Warwick Thumb Bolt-On, I didn't really think of it as modern, it actually had a very organic woody sound. My Modulus on the other hand can get some very hi-fi slap tones, sounds I can't get on any other bass. Check out Modulus.

I dont like either warwick or spector but my dislike for spector is slightly less than warwick. i find the necks more comfortable on the spectors but prefer the tone of the warwicks better.

just get out there and play both brands as well as other brands and let your own ears be your guide.

I'd take a Euro Spector over a Warwick anyday. I've owned NS2000s and a Warwick $$ and preferred the cheaper Korean Spectors over the Warwick, and played Euro Spectors that blow Warwicks away
