Double Bass Spiders in my bass?

So I'm peeking around with a flashlight in my bass last night, and there they were - a load of spider webs.

This bass has been played nearly every day for the last five years or so. What gives? Are spiders deaf? How can they bear to listen to that every day? I can barely stand it myself sometimes, and I'm outside of the darned thing . . .

Went diving in the Philippines a few weeks ago. We rented all but our fins, goggles, mask, and snork. We checked stuff on land and found no troubles. On the boat I did my dive check again and this time hundreds of spidered rushed out of my regulator and into my mouth and lungs.

Ok, so I overreacted adn thought they were spiders, they were actually ants but I was still freeked. A great dive and 50 cent San Miguels made it all better.

It's not called a violin spider because it likes to hide in instruments - the term refers to its markings.

However, if you do in fact have brown recluse spiders in it (unlikely), I would move it out of the living area and have the instrument and case fumigated. Spiders are notoriously resistant to sprays and other pesticides - anything less than substantial direct contact with sprays often doesn't kill them.

No need to use pesticides. They will only stink up the bass and leave toxic residues. I would not enjoy leaning over the bass and getting a good whiff of that stuff every night.

A really good vacuuming will do the job to get any spiders, spiderlets and egg sacs. Make sure to chuck the vacuum bag when you are done ;)

Of course, this is an old enough thread that you have either taken care of them already or they have taken over your home....

Hey Suzie, good to hear from you! :) How's things in Arizona?

Hi Jake,

Thanks for asking.

Well it has been a very tough go of it. I spent the whole time since I was last here (over the holidays) camping on the open range with no facilities of any sort. I got to know many of the cows and bulls on an individual basis. I just found a temporary rental in a house specially built for people with my sort of medical problems. Hope to work out something long term.

Living out was good for some aspects of my health. Unfortunately, the demands of surviving out there in those conditions were taking their toll and I started to deteriorate. If I get myself patched up a bit, I may even begin be able to think about music again.

It is nice to have a familiar place to drop in, to see many of the same folks having the usual conversations. I feel like a lot of life has passed me by in recent years so even the small things are a huge deal.

You are tough! ;)

Its nice to hear you sounding positive Suzie.

There are definitely benefits to living outdoors - its more or less where the species supposed to be. Still, its nice to be around people who understand and who sympathize. And indoor plumbing is really cool!

Actually, I am alone out here right now. I was referring to TB. I can go away and when I come back, no matter where I am, not much has changed here.

But to be on topic I must mention that this house has lots of spiders. I am doing about three catch and releases every night. I just take them out and put them in the greasewood bushes. I wonder if the same ones come back into the house.
