Do any arco players have experience with using a Spirocore Low C# solo string and tuning it down to a Low B on a 5-string bass? My 5er is a massive bass and has a pretty long string length (111cm/43.7inch) and therefore needs as much tension reduction as possible, without losing so much that the fundamental in the sound is lost.
Ideally, of course, I would love to have Eudoxas at least on the Low B and E for their fantastic tonal and lower-tension qualities. I am debating whether it is worth experimenting with this Spiro Low C# or if I should bite the bullet and buy at least a Low B Eudoxa to get that slight release of tension on the top of the bass. Many orchestral players here use the Eudoxa Low B with Belcantos on the upper four, so I would be in good company at least.
But back to the question at hand: Looking at the excel file from @DoubleMIDI , I would get 1kg less tension on the Spiro low C# tuned down to B than a Eudoxa low B. But I am hoping to get some insight into how that string feels and sounds, especially next to Belcantos, which is what I currently use. If if will feel too different, then should I just get a Eudoxa?
