Squier Affinity Jazz V

Sweeeet!!!!! Where did you cop the black pickguard from?? Is it a 4string pickguard that you modded??

Thanks! That is an ordinary Fender MIM 5-string jazz pickguard. There is no real aftermarket pickguard for an Affinity jazz that fits perfectly. The MIM pickguards are the closest however without having to go the custom-made route. They fit almost perfectly - no filing or anything like that involved, but there will be about a 1/8th inch gap beneath the neck - where the neck meets the body.

Cool...yeah, ive noticed you couldnt find any online thats what made me curious. Thanks for sharing the info. That 1/8 gap isnt really that noticable is it? Has anyone whose seen your bass notice it (without "EXAMINING" it).

It's not that noticeable most of the time - it also depends on what color the body is and the pickguard itself. I haven't had anyone say anything or otherwise "notice" it at all. Definitely wouldn't notice it on any indoor or evening gig.

Here's a pic that makes it a little more easier to see:

Ok yeah...that doesent look bad at all. It looks pretty darn good actually. Better than I expected. Thats a nice mod yo!!!

Very cool rides! Lucky... ;)

I rarely ever go lower than 'D' on my five, but I do use the notes on the 'B' above the 5th fret often; makes for a lot less hand movement. I dig those Squier 5s; awesome basses. Rock! :)

Yes!

I am playing a good deal further up the neck now, and having a blast!

I put on Tower of Power, Stevie Wonder, and soul and funk standards today, just to get a workout. My band isn't equipped to do music like this, but it is awfully fun to play to it. I'm not saying I was nailing it; far from it! But I was having a blast, and finding it a lot easier with that extra string.

Now I have to look into getting a stiffer string for it. That one feels a hair loose to me.

I'll probably do the whole set.

I use D'Addario EXL170-5 set on my Affinity Vs (I have an white one being converted to fretless) and the response is pretty even across the neck. The B does not feel floppy to me at all. Most of my previous five strings were 35" scale, for comparison sake. Gauges are: .045, .065, .080, .100, .130.

I own a myriad of high end basses. That being said, I also own a Squire Affinity Jazz 5 which I dearly love & which I have taken all over the world. I too, have a nice set of flats on it (Dogal Jacos) & replaced the bridge with a Hipshot. I was going to replace the pups, but you know....... I love the way the stock ones sound! On the other hand I hated the stock pups on my MIM Fender Jazz 5 & replaced them w/ active Barts. I take it with me when we tour in Europe or anywhere I think a more expensive bass might possibly get stolen. I'd be pissed if I lost it but I could fix up another one for about $300-350.

What change did you notice with the replacement of the stock bridge with the Hipshot?

Does the Affinity Jazz V have a big route under the pickguard, or is there just a small space around the neck pickup?

I got a used, black, Affinity Jazz-V made in 2015. Surprisingly, there was no bathtub routing, just the slots cut for the pickups and the control plate.
