Squier Affinity Series Jazz Bass

Where is this bass made. I saw this on craigs list. It is listed for $150 obo. Is it worth it

My squier affinity P bass was made in China. The pickups in it were weak, I replaced them with cheapies I had left over from a kit. But it plays very nice, nice neck and good fretwork. I paid $110 for it, a little practice amp, planet waves strap, and a music stand, it was also a craigslist find.
I think they sell for $199 new.

I've tried half a dozen Affinity basses. Two were horrible, two were decent, one was pretty good, and one was damned fine!
I'd definitely go to Guitar Center and try out as many as possible and pay the extra $50 for a new one. Don't forget, with a 15% coupon you can use the money you saved for some good flatwounds or tapewounds.

One odd thing about the Chinese Affinitys is that they have alder bodys.
Many of the other Squiers are basswood.
While 150 isn't altogether unreasonable, you might try a lower offer.

You can buy used from GC for around $100. My local Craigslist has one with a Rumble 15 amp for $140.

$150 is too much.

I recently played a friend's 1997 Squier Affinity Precision bass. I was really surprised at how great the neck felt. It was pretty substantial and chunky, fretwork seemed just fine, bass had minimal relief and good action, played great and sounded good. I'm sure the electronics were not the greatest, but even unplugged the bass was super resonant. If it was mine I'd most likely re-wire it, pop in my pickup of choice and ditch the cheap 1-ply pickguard and add a tort guard (his was a 1-ply white guard on an olympic white body with rosewood board). He bought it last year for $100 locally off of CL. I'd rock that bass without hesitation.

You can usually get 15% off at Musician’s Friend or Guitar Center and get a new Affinity for $170, so $150 is too much. If you play it and like it, make your best offer accordingly.

That color has been out of production for a while now so keep that in mind if the looks are what sparked your interest. You won't be able to get a new one. Definitely try a lower offer, but $150 is not really too much if the bass is still in excellent cosmetic condition and plays well.

Most other things have been said already. The pickups are all that you will likely want to upgrade. If you don't plan on leaving everything stock, I honestly find the Affinity series to be a better value than the higher end Squiers since these have alder bodies instead of agathis/basswood.

Where is this bass made.

Some Affinities are made in China, others in Indonesia. From what I've seen, the ones with the teensy, closed-box tuners are Chinese, while the Indonesian ones have the standard, open-back tuners.
