Photo of my Jazz Bass. Anyone out there have valuation guesses? I'm trying to determine next steps with the neck.
I have a minor choke issue at the neck bolt (fret 15) - only worsens when I lower the action.
I'm thinking about expanding to a 5-string neck - if the body on this MiM is alder and worth the upgrade.
I can't find enough info on the instrument - so any help the forums can provide would be extremely appreciated.

I dont own one... yet. But it's on my wishlist. I played 2 Affinities in particular that were stellar basses; a 2005 in red and a 2018 in burst. Feel, sound, fit, finish, everything- easily hold it's own against an MIM. I have some other gear I want to get first but I would love to have one in the collection!

What's the overall difference between the affinity basses and an older '97 like mine?

Good question. I'm not as familiar with the older squiers. Get a good shot of front and back of headstock, maybe someone can ID it. Theres also info/serial lookup here:

That's the problem: Action is too high, mutes at the 15th fret. Can't fix it using a standard setup - either needs fretwork, neck work, or a new neck altogether. If the body is junk plywood, I'm not going to go too much further into the rabbit hole. My initial findings tho - it's not plywood.Good question. I'm not as familiar with the older squiers. MIM, that's supposed to be a good one. "Black label" i think they call em. (EDIT yes I know, its NOT a black label) I'd wager a bet a MIM fender neck would be the best fit. But the beautiful thing about fender/squier parts is the specs are so close on any given series, you can make just about anything fit with minimal mods/tweaking.
Theres a squier mod club, stop in, maybe someone has experience with that model:

2008 Squier CV Jazz bass. The previous owner upgraded it with ultralight tuners, graphtech saddles and straplocks. I changed out the original pickups for DiMarzio Area Js.

I have had probably 25-30 various Squier basses roll through here in the last 20 years … this first year '77 VM Jazz pictured came to me used surprisingly light at just over 7lbs and after a little massaging quickly became a work horse … it has made as much money for me as probably any bass I have ever owned, including those that cost 10x as much … all for a whopping $150 investment …

Many of the "Black Label" Fenders of the 90's were the Fender "Squier Series", adding to the confusion that they're also Squiers.
@JDRonson it sounds like you might have some "Ski-Jump" going on with your neck. Getting the Facts about Ski Jumps
As for me, I don't currently own a Squier Jazz Bass...but I used to! I had an 89 MIK jazz,
I have a Squier Affinity Jazz 4 string, sunburst. I put in an EMG system and straplocks, I'm going to put on a Fender high mass bridge, just waiting for the neck shims to arrive. I'll post a pic when I get home, it's a great bass and I use it a lot live.

I guess I assumed all MIM squiers were called black label. Duh!
I have 3 Squire's. 50's CV is probably my favorite.
I have the Jaco-esque Squier VM Fretless. Can't be bothered taking a photo, because you all know what it looks like anyway. It's Indonesian, an '08 if I remember correctly, with Duncan Design pickups. Got it used for $140 (seller was almost talking himself down, so I didn't have to do much haggling). Needed new neck screws and a neckplate, all of which I got here on TB for $8.
Does anyone know the correct way to repair ebanol? There's a small divot out of the fingerboard that I'd like to repair as long as fixing it doesn't make it worse. It's not in the string path and so doesn't affect play, but I see it once in awhile.
