Squier (by Fender) vs Lyon (Washburn)

GAS is a cookin' once again. I miss having a strong P bass and I have the opportunity to pick up a super cheap one for $60-ish bucks.

Only thing is, it'll need work. The pots are needing to be swapped, the pickups gotta go, the thing needs a setup, cleaning, all sorts of work. Sounds like a fun project bass!

My question: are Squiers and Lyons on the same level quality-wise?

Depends on the era and the factory/country the Squier comes from. Don't know so much about the Lyon.

It's an Indonesian Squier. About four years old. That bass is fantastic, actually, though I just really miss having a P bass. I also want something I can fix up. That was supposed to be the Jazz, but nothing is broke on it. Haha!

The Lyon has a cruddy bridge, bad pots, strings waiting to pop off... I like a good rehab. I just need to know the truss rod is functional. I am prepared to lose money doing this.

That's lovely. I ended up losing the P to someone else, but I did sell the Squier. I'm down to just a single-bass arsenal now...

My experience with both Lyon and Squire Affinity is that the Lyon P (stood for POS- barely enough wire inside and minimal solder kept falling apart. Honed my soldering skills keeping it playing, literally every time I tried to play it something needed fixing) is that the Squier Affinity is worlds ahead in terms of quality over the Lyon.

I had a Vintage Modified. Got rid of it this morning, actually. The P ended up in someone else's hands.
