Also, before you go into doing something drastic like a pickup swap, you might just have a dead string. You can get them occasionally with any brand or set of strings. It also could have been twisted when it was put on, effectively killing it as well.

I'd only had the 50's P a few months, it had two week old GHS Precision Flats on it and a 1/4 pounder pup. They also got my VM fretless Jazz that had new TI flats I'd put on just a few days before and an Acoustic B200 combo along with a small Fender practice amp. Of course the 32" flat screen, a lap top, digital cameras, jewelry, etc.

Really hard to describe the feeling when you come home and find your home has been busted into and most of the things you put out hard earned money for have been carried off by some vile piece of scum. Life goes on though and a security system with cameras has been installed that notifies us and the police right away.

I feel sad for you too. Did you have any insurance?
Myself i must soon do something to mine, i have 33 basses and guitars, 4 very good amps, big 55 tv and heavy surround system, but my insurance covers only 60% for what they are worth.
Another sad thing is that even if your insurance covers 100%, you can`t get all same instruments back you have carefully chosen years before. Damn crooks!

Hi CV fans,
I love CV jazz 60 until I got an opportunity playing Alleva coppolo LG4,...and realize my CV "G" string is off but not out of tune kind of off.
it just sounds dull and only with G sting.
Does it need re-setup?

Of course it does! That is very typical when some string loses it`s real character.

Thanks for your concern, but don't feel sad. I must admit I'm a bit bitter, but fine and my insurance covered 100%. They have since raised my rates though, :scowl: but we have replaced everything with equivalent or better and had a security system installed with 24hr monitoring.

I highly recommend getting a security system if you don't already have one. You can possibly get better insurance coverage, but it will likely cost more and if you make a claim, they will probably raise your rates anyway.

It also could be a pickup that is too high on that side, with the magnetic pull shortening the sustain.

Check pickup height and if it is not too high on that side, replace the strings.

I'm afraid I don't, sorry. I just do it by sight. But I'll take some measurements later for you and let you know.

Are there any CV 60's or Matt Freeman Precision owners here who also own a Fender American standard precision?

If so, have you noticed the difference in the neck? The Fender site says they're both "modern C" shape which I assume is the profile, and they both have the same nut width, but the CV neck is a little narrower across the fretboard along the rest of the neck.

I measured mine at the 4th and 11th frets, and the CV came out around 2mm less at both points.

I think I prefer the CV version, and I'm kinda almost considering selling my USA P and buying a couple of Matt Freeman sigs.

cool! plan is to convert i to disco/funk/slap machine. currently looking for a new pickguard, thinking about red or silver mirror, but that probably isn't a good idea, scratches from slapping would ruin it very quick

Like most any other pickups you ears will tell you more than any measuring device. A lot of it has to do with the sensitivity of the pickup itself and where you find that "sweet spot".

With a PBass it's usually best to start low and begin bringing them up until you begin to hear the volume increase and the tonal "bloom" you get when you're near of hit the "sweet spot".

Raise them in small increments and listen. You'll find it.

Sorry, didn't mean to be misleading. I've used that guide to get my jazz back to factory spec, but didn't know if the p pickup got adjusted differently since its two pieces.

Put some D'Addario Warm Mellow Flats on my CV Jazz yesterday, I was happy with it before, but Day-yum! Talk about Classic Vibe! The sound and feel of these strings on the CV is perfect.

Now flats aren't new to me, that's all you could get when I started playing and I've got nothing against rounds. I jumped on the round wound wagon when it came along too, but it puzzles me as to why Fender/Squier put rounds on a classic series bass.

I played a Jazz with DiMarzio Model J's a few weeks back and was thinking DiMarzio's would be good in my CV, but not now. This bass sounds and feels like it should.

No, it's pretty much the same, except that it's easiier to conform to the radial profile of the strings with a split pickup.
