I agree that certain Squiers do vary with the darkened Laurel Fingerboard. I use to own a Squier P bass that had a very dark fingerboard and it easily passed off as Rosewood. Best sounding P bass, couldn't justify the weight though killing my lap

Yea that makes sense, I have seen a couple new Crafted in China CV's and the headstocks looked a full couple shades darker than the normal tint gloss finish but the boards still appeared grayish, not near as dark as yours. Thanks, enjoy!
Yea man I had read production was moving back to China or at least manufactured ALSO in China, they are starting to show up, I haven't had my hands on one to compare fit/finish to earlier CIC CV's. Serials start w/CMHC.

I can find that out on my end once I pick up my Squier Daphne Blue with matching headstock. Compare that to a 2010 Fiesta Red P Bass
I have only seen a matching headstock in sonic blue. P bass?
LOVE Sonic Blue, that matching heastock is a killer look to round it out. Are you assuming it's CIC or do you know? I have had really good luck with the Indo CV's definetly not quite on par with the early CIC's but very nice indeed!

Ya it states on the back of the headstock "Crafted in China" the first numbers of the s/n are "CMHC2100".
I also have a CIC CV 50s strat from a few years ago and it's made somewhere else s/n starts with "CGRI1900".
I think the letters at the beginning of the s/n refer to the place they are made.
I'm thinking Fender had to close the CGRI factory for some reason and now they've
opened the CMHC one.

If they had went back to full Chine for the 40th year anniversary models; I would have jumped. But they didn't.
My two classic vibes. Had the 50s for about a year now, with some substantial upgrades including Hipshot HB7s, a Fralin Split 5% Overwound pickup, CTS pots, and a Wilkinson brass saddle bridge.
Just picked up the fiesta red yesterday for a very good deal, it’s a 2010 model and it’s basically unplayed. I’ve ordered a mint guard for it (really don’t jive with the photo tort), and will be upgrading the wiring harness to either CTS or Bourns. I may upgrade the pickup, but it sounds pretty good stock, so I may keep it. These Chinese models were out when I was in high school, and I’ve always wanted one, so I was beyond stoked to pick it up for such a deal.
Keep the pickups stock on that fiesta red. There’s no other P bass tone like it out there that a P pickup can replicate. There’s a reason why they live up to its reputation around here.

Congratulations, Your piece has nice looking dark laurel fretboard . Hopefully the china version possible bringing back the previous china CV QC.
I recently bought an early CIC CV 70's P that already had a Model P pickup in it, but the guy included the stock pickup in the sale. I have been enjoying it as is so I haven't tried putting the stock one in there to see how it sounds. You think it's worth the hassle?
If you like the sound your getting with the Model P, I wouldn't bother with putting the stock pup in... yet.
The Model P will be "hotter" sounding and have slightly more output then the stock pup. So, it really depends on what type of sound your looking for.
One advantage of the stock pup is that it would probably work better for you if you like using effects or overdrive pedals.
I know a p-bass is supposed to wear tort, but boy did that $12 pickguard make a difference to my eye. Classy
