I know a p-bass is supposed to wear tort, but boy did that $12 pickguard make a difference to my eye. Classy

With tort pickguard, she become poor man Piano Sig P ; with mint guard, poor man AVri 63p.
They do come up occasionally, I just passed on an aged white CV jazz for $300 probably should have grabbed it but it was not in good shape, it had neck dings and hardware that looked like it had been relic'd although it was not (just neglected) I passed on it.Thanks, I am! I have a few CV's CIC and Indo's.
They are incredible players here's one of mine a CIC 60's jazz bass.

I’m not a big fan of tort but to me it just looks right on the CV60’s P.
The stock cheesy tort is kind of it’s signature charm. I wish mine still had the Classic Vibe decal on the pickguard.

Dropped some Kent Armstrongs into my CIC 60. This bass has suffered through a near constant rotation of pickups and other mods over the last couple of years, but I like these so far; articulate without being too modern or overwound.
My other daily driver is a Late 50s P which has seen way more use lately and is probably a nicer bass overall, but the J stays around because the story is better. We had just got off a big tour and were headlining a festival out of town to finish the run, but all our rental gear had gone back so between one thing and another I realised that I didn't actually own a fully working bass any more. I found this one on Gumtree local to the festival site and arranged to meet the guy there; met him in the car park, asked "Do the electronics work? They do? Are you really, really sure about that?", and then walked onstage with it. I took it live on national TV the next morning too. It's a little beater.
(I did actually check the electronics and do a quick setup backstage before I went out totally blind, but that's not as much fun to say)

That guard is bidness! I like that. Pickups are cool too.
Something about the pickups' "Retro Cool" aesthetic is giving me a bit of inspiration. I could easily see that specific Jazz being given a "1950's Diner" makeover. All you'd need is a black & white checkerboard pickguard, a control plate made from Black/Red/Black pickguard material (or Black/White/Black, then worked over with my "DIY Sharpie Tint™" process
) and a prominent, retro soda logo sticker to suit one's individual tastes in fizzy beverages…boom and done! 
Cross-post from my NBD post— this is my third (maybe 4th?) Classic Vibe but the first P.. the ones that got away were all Jazzes! As great as this brand new one sounds stock I’ll probably end up installing some new pickups & a hi-mass bridge.

This one’s an Indonesian 2021 & is more comparable in build quality to my old 2012 MIC than the other two I had that were 2017ish Indonesian. Can’t find a thing wrong with it! Feels and sounds GREAT!

Anodised Alum made by Tinytone in Manchester, UK. Great work and sorted it for me quickly - went for the one-piece guard at their advice because there's less room for flexing than with plastic and they were worried about the join lining up neatly.
There's a bit of a fridge handle vibe about them isn't there? I like the idea of a silver/red/silver multi-ply guard. Maybe for the next revision!
Not just fridge handles, but just about everything that wanted to be considered "cool!
" in that day and age. Chrome was a cornerstone of the 1950's American aesthetic. Something about it screamed "post-war prosperity". But don't take my word for it when shamelessly idealized pop culture can tell the tale far, far better than I.(It's joints like this that popped to mind when I saw your bass with those lipstick-tube pickups…'50s diner aesthetic, Daddy-o!)
I have the exact bass (same color too). Mine is a CIC. It has one of the nicest necks of any bass I have played. The stock pup is a good pup. However, I ended up dropping in a Geezer. It has Chromes also. AWESOME sounding/playing thumper. Congratulations!

OKAY so the pickups in my new Surf Green CV P are the absolute worst sounding P pickups I’ve ever heard in my life. I dunno if it was the cool new Ampeg Rocket Blast whatever combo I tried it out through @ the store that made it sound great but plugging into my amp made me cringe. Literally cringe! Also it seems like the Tone knob doesn’t really do anything at all. There’s zero sweep. Not sure what’s going on with that. Or how that can even be a thing, lol.
But the bass sounds AMAZING unplugged, acoustically. So I’ve no plans on returning it, just made the idea of a pickup swap a definite thing that will happen ASAP.

Quite honestly I get that with those specific 70s P basses. Sound amazing acoustically, terrible plugged in. I ended up returning it but if I were to keep it and do some mods I’d install a whole new wiring harness (I agree, the tone knob literally has no effect), and a new pickup from either Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio.
I agree the pickups in the 70's P's are not stellar by any stretch, (I find them thin) I have steel rounds on one of mine and with a little tinkering with the p/u height they were perfectly useable...but that didn't stop me from a rewire and adding pots also dropped in some Fender Originals so yea make it yours! My next gets GZR's
This one’s getting GZR’s for sure— about to order some now! What are your steel rounds of choice? Thinking about putting my spare set of new Hi-Beams on mine, but I’ve got a new set of Sunbeams, too. Life is hard. Lol
GZR P’s are ordered! Now I’m stoked. I thought I was stoked before, but nah. This thing’s gonna sound NICE 
Roto 66 on one and another is wearing Fender 7250's (NPS) right now, yep good times! Plenty of strings around here and half the fun is pairing 'em up. I'm sittin on some Pure Blues, Fender Flats and a pack of ghs Boomers.
