Squier Classic Vibe Club (Part 3)

This may or may not be a viable option, but if I were doing it, I'd go with "a bit of both". By that, I mean I would mix and match the plate and screws to mirror what's going on with the black pickguard and chrome knobs. In this case, I'd use the black plate and saddles, but give it a little splash of chrome with the intonation screws and springs.

I pulled the same effect with one of my parts-bass Projekts. I wanted just the right mix of black and gold, but too much gold looks tacky to me, so I went with a gold, no-name bridge that had a little black in it to give it some visual balance.

I know it's my own personal hangup, but if you're gonna go for the black Badass, surely you'd have to get black tuners as well? Mismatched colour hardware has always had a funny look about it to me.

Either way, they're both good bridges. Do you find your P lacks acoustic resonance/sustain? Because if it is fine, I don't know how much of an "upgrade" the new one will be. I find they can help instruments which maybe lack a bit of natural resonance. Or also provide balance to a neck-heavy instrument!

Yeah I was thinking of keeping the chrome vibe with this one after pondering exactly what you said.. though having all black hardware w/ the bound/blocked maple neck does look pretty sweet! I did that with my old CV J.

The stock bridge on this P is OKAY but I’ve grown accustomed to the attack of a hi-mass, methinks. Tonally it sounds a lil squishy to me. Also the bass itself is light enough to accept some extra weight from the bridge.. just a smidge of dive as is.
I also foresee some Hipshot tuning keys in this thing’s future.. like every other late model Classic Vibe, the keys are lackluster and aren’t very smooth. I wish they’d stuck with using the HB7 style keys, like the ones on their MIM models. They’ve always been super solid IMO

Start by fixing the tone knob. These pickups are fine, they're 10.7kOhm, AlNiCo 5, same stuff as Fender in the 50s and 70s. Alpha pots have gone downhill, or Samick destroyed them.

I got em working, had to clean up the control cavity. Sounds like a gnarly P now! Still stoked on the GZRs tho (arriving today!)

I put fender tuners on mine, not as nice as the hipshot, but more affordable.

Awesome! I have one of the early CIC ones and it is my favorite bass I've ever owned. When I got it, it already had a Dimarzio Model P in it. The only mod I did was put in some black pickguard screws and changed the knobs. I would highly recommend it, it makes it look even more sleek and awesome.

My first bass was an Affinity J and after a few months I got a MIM Fender J and then I picked up a Music Man Stingray Special that I absolutely love. I really like playing classic rock and 80’s pop so I knew I needed a P and I really love the look of the Classic Vibes and both 70’s P and J with those awesome necks are my favorite. I thought about getting a Fender MIM P and put a mirror pickguard on it (I love Phil Lynott) but frankly I feel my Fender J is not much better than my Squier J so that’s why I bought it. Anybody know where I can find a mirror p/g for my CV P? I don’t have Lynott’s mojo and swag but I’d like my P bass to resemble his!

Since i recall the Fender 70s bass tuning machine are quite solid heavy. Is there notable neck dive issue compare to stock tuning machine set ?

I been replace the China CV50P tuning machine set with Gotoh Re-o-lite vintage GBR640, lost +/- 15 grams on each compare to already light weight(to me) stock tuning machine. Make the bass guitar has better 40(neck)/60(body) in weight balance.

No neck dive issues, the body is a fairly heavy piece of maple.
