Quick! I have a line on a Classic Vibe 70's Jazz bass 5 string at a really good price. Problem is, I just ordered a different bass this morning. Before anyone suggests I just keep both, that is not financially possible. The bass I ordered is a Jackson Spectra JS3Q 4 string. Something totally different then I usually play being that it's active/passive and 35" scale, different body shape, etc. I got a really good deal on that as well but I am thinking I should just cancel the order and pick up this CV 5 string. I'm currently without a 5er and have been wanting one. I was actually planning on getting a Harley Benton 5 string PJ before coming across the deal on the used Jackson.

TLDR: Anyone have experience with the CV 70's Jazz 5 string basses? Impressions?

If you need solid tight sound B string bass which close to CV70J price tag, I highly recommend Sterling SUB Ray5.

My previous ray5's B string ring clean until 13th fret along with EB 2810 flatwound bass string. Pickups placement + solid EB 130 B string just make this Ray5 shine.

Thanks for the quick reply! Glad to know about the weight. I recently moved on from an Ash jazz bass because it was almost 12lbs. Just can't do the heavy ones a comfortably anymore. I'm thinking I'll hold off on it.

Dude, I hate to break it to you, but... your bass. It's upside down.

I'd return it and see if you can get one that's right side up!

Here's my current favorite/go to bass for my recording needs. It played/felt amazing new out of the box, but sounded a bit bright for my liking. Tried tapes which weren't a good match for me, and then flats which ended up being the golden ticket. Now it thumps AND plays great. Not to mention I love how it looks as well. It has the tiniest amount of rough frets/sprout now due to the dry weather, but was pretty flawless out of the box when I got it last summer. I'm also liking the glossy neck more than I thought I would. I always avoided buying glossy necks due to the ones I tried always being sticky at stores.. but now that I actually own one, it doesn't really stick at all and just looks cool.

Just got this today after the previous one I bought was a lemon. So far it’s not a lemon thankfully however I suspect foul play in the truss rod. Taking this to a local luthier and get a second opinion to see if there’s any issues.

So I took it in, the neck is straight. Nothing wrong with the truss although it’s having a hard time to be setup to low action without buzzing all over the neck... Currently frustrated with it so I’m taking a mental break before I hop back to it .

To get mine really low (4/64's at 17th fret), it needed a fret levelling. I was hoping it wouldn't, but also fully went in expecting to bite that bullet. Honestly, basses at least twice the price often need the frets done to get super low action. It's a frankly disappointed aspect of modern QC standards across the industry, but I wouldn't expect decent frets on anything under $2000. Call me a cynic

I fix few uneven fret on my indo CV50P after i fix the nut slot issue. Now the G string action (check on 17th fret) can go low to 1.5mm, D string 1.6mm, A string 1.75mm and E string 2.0mm without fret buzz with La bella LTF4A.

If the bass play great to you, suggest give it a PLEK .

Yea and that’s a strike 2 for me. At this rate I’ll hold out for a Vintera 70s or a MIM Geddy..

I prefer my action being on the high side, but that's a bit much. Have you fiddled with the saddles?

Saddles have been adjusted but I’ve noticed the saddle screws are short, I might look into getting longer screws but I’m sending this headache back

I'm looking into getting a pickup cover for my Squier 50s P. How did you go about installing/drilling the holes for the pickup cover? I'd hate to screw up the finish! Thanks!

After your post, I measured the action on mine. I have 6/64" clearance between the bottom of my E string and the top of the 12th fret. What does yours measure? What is your sting height at 12th fret?
