Squier Classic Vibe Club (Part 3)

Did someone say 70s and natural finish?

IMG_6766.jpeg

Ok yeah sure J not P. But those are the *little* details

OKAY so the pickups in my new Surf Green CV P are the absolute worst sounding P pickups I’ve ever heard in my life. I dunno if it was the cool new Ampeg Rocket Blast whatever combo I tried it out through @ the store that made it sound great but plugging into my amp made me cringe. Literally cringe! Also it seems like the Tone knob doesn’t really do anything at all. There’s zero sweep. Not sure what’s going on with that. Or how that can even be a thing, lol.
But the bass sounds AMAZING unplugged, acoustically. So I’ve no plans on returning it, just made the idea of a pickup swap a definite thing that will happen ASAP.
Time to drop in a Geezer... you won't be disappointed.

I've got a GZR in my Late 50s - it's a good pickup but I'm not entirely sure I don't like the stock one more so I'm sticking a pin in it for now. Just a bit darker and plummy for me where the stock was bright and clangy.

Both of the L50s I have had sounded incredible out of the box but I got a white one first and there was an unpleasant grain showing through the finish. Was really torn about sending it back because it sounded amazing, but went for a return on the sunburst and am a lot happier with it.

Nice bass! and it looks like you added a highmass? I just picked one up locally and haven't posted a NBD thread yet but here it is, it's 2021 Indo, neck feels great, a well made bass and so far it's a solid player, wearing Rotosounds.

It's got a Hipshot Kickass, but that's less for the "hi-mass" factor than the fact I can adjust the string spacing. After 10 years with only a Rick to keep me company, I'm used to a slightly narrower spacing than Fender-standard.

The bigger change was throwing some Lindy Fralins in; wow! Mine also has Rotos on it, and they absolutely sing with those pickups.

Enjoy your new bass! Looks great

Welp. I really wanted a black Squier CV 70s but all I see come up used are natural. Not complaining however I’ve been meaning to own an actual 70s Jazz bass with 70s spacing. The only time I ever owned one was an American Geddy Lee. Long story short I snagged one used at GC. Hoping it’s not a lemon

Ships from Vegas? Looks nice if I looked at the right one, they pulled the page so it must be being packed up about now...

Good luck with it sonojono I hope it sticks for ya and let us know if it ends up being a keeper, nice!

Same! They really sound nice and I would like to swap out the pickups for a pair of AO '75 Jazz Bass pickups I've bought from here to give it that "aesthetic 70s sound" for my social media content.

Wow, I’m expecting the bass at my front door tomorrow! UPS must be doing something right

GZRs are on the way (should be here Monday) & I’ll be peeling the plastic off of the guard when I install them..
In the meantime I’m doing a restring / bridge swap— but I don’t know which bridge to use! One chrome, one black.
Thoughts?!
