i'm not in the club (yet), but i am a happy new owner (re: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=653764&highlight=squier) of one and it continues to amaze me. last night i was able to spend a solid hour with it. still unable to crank it (apartment/neighbors), so was limited to low volume or headphones. of course its difficult to critique them fairly under those conditions, but i didn't hear anything to write home about coming outta the stock pickups. since they go for <$30 on ebay, so i'm sure they can be improved upon, in any case. i'm likely to spring for a nordy np4 in the very near future.
on another note, i yanked the pickguard yesterday to have a look under the hood and, to my amazement, it was clean enuff to eat off of. i was expecting the usual bits of this/that, sawdust and polish, etc from the factory as i have been so accustomed to finding on virtually every MIM fender i've ever owned. not so, in this case. spotless and flawless. was also surprised to find conductive/shielding paint in the control cavity. also very nicely applied. at this point, i may splurge for a nice (G&G) case too...

If I could find one that was this color, I"d be inclined to buy it. The ones I"ve seen have been more Pepto-Bismol-ish.

Thats the beauty of it. I love me some pink-ish red basses!
No real need for a picture... it is going look more like a matt finish. I just took enough off to make the back of neck super smooth and not "sticky" like the original finish.

I used a 320 grit sponge and lightly sanded away the sticky gloss of the finish. I used a slightly damp paper towel every couple of minutes to take off any excess. The whole process did not take more than 30 minutes (I took my time). There is probably a better way but it worked good enough for me and the difference in playability is dramatic.
I've been subscribed to this thread for a while, but never become a member. Here's my 60's Jazz. I've upgraded the electronics to Bourns pots (push/pull series/parallel), Sprague cap, switchcraft, silver coated wire. I also shielded with copper foil. It's killer now!

Thanks, man! I've said this years ago on the forums here but the Dirnt is almost exactly what I would have done if I had the dough to have the Custom Shop build me something. I'll probably be using my Jag on our next gig but invariably I'll go back to the Dirnt.
New squier classic vibe 224$ HUGE chip in it but still thats cheap and i think musiciansfriend is having 5% off or something, perferct if you dont care,wanna relic it or refin?

Can I get a number? I just picked up a CV 60's P. Fiesta Red! I haven't done anything to it yet, but I think my plan is to drop in some new pups. Any suggestions?

Dude, I put some DiMarzios in my CV P but honestly it didn't make a real noticeable difference.

I wish i would not have changed pickups in my CV, cost me money and i think made it worse.
I noticed the biggest difference when I changed the capacitor. I'm thinking of going with a different rated one. Maybe something a bit higher. Mine sounds quite a bit darker with the new cap than it did stock.
I have since sold mine but i perfered a orange drop cap in mine .47 I really liked that with stock pickups, but the high output pickups worked against the tone i was wanting , i had seymour duncans in mine.
Well, I changed my cap when I changed my pickups. Probably should have done one, then the other. But I changed mine to a .47 and I think it took a lot of the highs out of the tone.
I want one really bad! I am getting one. My mom told me "if I would've known sooner, this would've been your graduation gift"
