I had a chance to look at a Sonic Blue and Fiesta Red CV P bass when I bought mine. I didn't measure but the only difference I could see between the 2 bridges was the chrome vs brass saddles. That's also what it says on the Squier website FWIW.
Until someone pointed it out here I didn't know there was any difference in the string spacing. For comparison I have 62 AVRI Jazz and I 57 AVRI Pbass, both with stock threaded saddles. I suspect that most people wouldn't notice a difference if you are used to standard Fender spacing. I've thought about changing the bridge purely for cosmetic reasons but not worth the hassle of dowls and refilling. Also think the stock bridge seems pretty nice.
Before the Fiesta Red basses were available the Sonic Blue basses had the standard bridge and a bridge cover.
Now they are using the same bridge and there is no bridge cover on the blue one any more.
They changed the spec for whatever reason.
The heavier bridges are 1/8" wider than a stock Fender bridge (each string is 1/32" farther apart than a stock Fender bridge).
It's most noticable to me when I play closer to the bridge, I would change it so it feels like a standard Fender bass.
FWIW, I could feel the wider string spacing from the moment I played one, I don't use a pick so maybe that's why. But it hasn't stopped me from gigging with it or taking it to a recording session or local jam.
Does anyone know if there are any 3rd party high mass bridges that will just drop in to a CV P?
Apparently some Squier models used the second bridge (with the normal spacing) but I don't think it was ever used on the CV series. Or at least I have never seen one on a CV. I would love to be wrong about this, though, since the bridge is the one detail I would change on my CV.
Fender part number 007-4942-000 (the heavier bridge) is the bridge indicated on the 60s CV parts list that came with my sonic blue version that I received Christmas 2009.
My bass has the heavier bridge and bridge cover.

Yeah, the bridge cover for that bridge is different than the cover for a standard P. I have a standard cover and it doesn't fit over the CV bridge.
Maybe the Sonic Blue CV basses I saw were older. There was one in NYC and another in the White Plains Sam Ash store and both had the standard bridge. I almost bought one of them but I don't care for that color as much.
Hey guys, my Fiesta Red CV P arrived and im very impressed with it, so far.
Other than the colour its more than i expected, even though i already have a CV Jazz.
The neck is amazingly close to the Jazz neck, i didn't expect that. The tone is nice and deep and set up is just right, although i will be putting some XL's on it tonight so i may need to do a bit of tweaking. Considering how much this cost it certainly puts the recent MIA's to shame, at least the pup lines up.
Weight is a very nice 8.5lbs. lighter than both my CV Jazz and HW-one IIR.
I realise most of you know all this so i wont go on about it. Ill try and get some shots up later or tomorrow.
All in all, its a fantastic buy, and its so nice getting a P tone back again. I really missed it.

Has anyone else noticed the same similarity? I havent been able to play a CV P yet, but usually the chunkier necks keep me away from P basses
Thats exactly why ive been playing Jazz basses recently. I took a gamble on this as its not a lot of money wasted if i didnt get on with it but i cant see any problems.
It is 4mm wider at the neck than the CV Jazz but i had to re measure it as it feels almost the same
The 50's P I tried a while back had a very chunky neck but the sonic blue and fiesta red 60's P basses were much better.
I have had all 3 basses of the CV series , my 50's was my favorite. All experienced bad settings , shows etc and all have since been sold.
My CV P is just a step towards something like a HW-one P or MIA P but for now its going to be ideal as i probably wont use it for every gig so i wont feel ive wasted money on a bass im not using.
Both my CV P and CV Jazz are 20mm (or as close as i can see).
Does anyone know if we can get grooved saddles for the MH bridge?
I much prefer 18mm if i can get it.

I have one of each CV P basses. The neck on the 60's is much slimmer and more jazz like. The 50's neck is indeed chunky, like a baseball bat. I like them both but the 60's is slicker to play. It's a great bass for the money.
cool, thanks for checking. I can't say the spacing bothers me when I'm playing it, though I would prefer a smaller spacing now that I know there are differences (I'm new to bass) Its probably not enough to deter me from the CV J though, I do really like it
The 50's CV has a chunky, U shaped neck. I played one once and really liked it but I have big hands and tend to like big necks on guitar. The CV 60's P and J necks seem very similar to me. There maybe a slight difference in width at nut but the neck profiles are similar. If you've historically shied away from P's because of wide necks, the 60s CV P is a great way to go.
Curious about your comment. What do you mean by all experienced bad setting and shows, etc? Did you have problems with the basses or just didn't like how they sounded? FWIW, I gig, record and rehearse with my CV60 P all the time and have had zero issues. I did swap out the strings, pots and jack but more to reduce potential future problems rather than address current ones.
I say just play it and you probably won't notice it at all. I play a Jazz bass, a EBMM Sterling and a 5 string so I can feel it, but like I said it hasn't stopped me from playing it or taking it to gigs, etc.
You may like it so much you'll be buying that bridge to put on your other basses when you get them
Heres a pic of my new CV P, along side my CV Jazz. Great pair of basses. While i like the feel of the CV P neck ill probably swap them over pretty soon as i prefer the Jazz sized neck. After playing for a while last night i can feel a difference between the two necks, even though its not much.
I do have a small problem though. Im a bit worried about the neck pocket on the CV P. I didnt notice it at first but its not a snug as it should be.
It seems to play ok, intonation is fine so im inclined to keep it.
Anyone have any comments to make? Anyone else have something like this? My CV Jazz is fine.
