Hi! Tomorrow I'll retrieve my CV Precision 50's from the shop, the molded case and other accessories are already here (ordered from another shop). Meanwhile, the next step could raise an eyebrow here: I'm going to bring it to a luthier, to have it defretted (yeah, and make it an "Imprecision"), and strung with the lower (BEAD) strings of a five-strings pack. Well, nothing will be added, only removed, so technically it will still be a Squier.

Pics in a couple of weeks, when I'll have it back, modified. :hyper:

My way of celebrating 60 years of Precision, so to speak. :bassist:

Can't wait to see that, thats going to look killer.

I have some serious Squier GAS right now. Played the CV 60s Precision recently and was just blown away by it. Nice stuff.
I'm thinking of a Fiesta Red CV Precision, and the Olympic White Jazz.

Fender really need to step up their game. There seems to be real inconsistency in the MIM stuff, but a lot of bassy goodness in the Squier camp. What's up with that? There's a big (not massive, but quite apparent) price difference between the Squiers and the MIMs, but I'm just not feeling the love on the MIM Fenders. Must just be the ones I tried.
Is it just me?

Hoping to joint this club soon!!!
Where are the best deals for Squier CVs?

Good idea :hyper:

CV Precision 50' seems to be a quite fine instrument as is, save for the white pickguard that has aged due to having been exposed to daylight for quite a long time (serial number begins with 08...), apparently in a humid store, from the rust I see on that pickguard's screws. I saw this wheile removing the CV sticker, which leaves now a very neat white silhouette... But I won't return the instrument: I just ordered an "antique white pearl" pickguard instead, from Jeannie Pickguards! It's a bit embarassing to say, and probably due to my lack of experience, but it plays about as easily as my two MIA Jazzes, in spite of the chunkier, broader, glossy neck! Intonation perfect, had to lower the action on the E a tad. Great sound with stock strings, and the single coil hum disappears whenever I touch a string or the bridge ... :). Yeah, hum because I'm used to play "full throttle": pots wide open! I know, not very P-like... :hiding: Actually, I'm tempted to ask the luthier who will defret it to bypass the pots when he removes the original pickguard, since the jack out has to be fixed anyway... that socket looseness seems to be recurrent on that particular instrument. Indeed: I'm thinking of one decently shielded cable straight from pup to jack socket. I must be crazy, no doubt. Could I get banned from TB for bypassing pots on an instrument?

Anyway, the overall build (neck and body) of the instrument is *very* well done. Having it here since less than a day, I can't tell if it stays in tune as well as a MIA Fender, but otherwise, a very fine instrument. However much I like the elegancy of a Jazz (on top, of course, of the musical qualities!!!), that very early P look, with that simple pup and that very graceful pickguard has tons of vibe! And the tele headstock, let's not forget that. Shame they didn't put it on the anniversary model!!! :scowl:

And, as said: pics (and number request) when the mods have been executed, probably within a month or so!:hyper:

The wait is killing me...wont be coming in until monday. But a good thing is my pickguard, knobs and pickup covers should be coming in on monday as well,so I'll get everything all at once.

It will be worth the wait.

Im having a nightmare getting a new pickguard for my CVP.
Ive found one that fits (black) but the pup covers are too big and will need quite a bit of filing. I had to do this with the Squier PG as well. I think im goin got leave the original one on for now.

Man...played another CV P today. One that had just come into the local GC. It's the 4th different CV P I've played (one sonic blue, the others fiesta red.)

What a nice, nice instrument.

I know it shouldn't matter to me that much, but I just can't get on with the color. Don't really care for either the blue or the red.

The CV Jazz in white with the tort guard is the classiest looking of the CV basses methinks, but I'm just more of a P guy.

Exactly how i feel about both basses.

I love my CV P and will probably keep it for a long time but no matter how nice it feels and sounds i just cant love it 100% because i really dont like the colour. Even CAR would be better.

Yeah, I've often thought it might help if they put a mint guard on the fiesta red and the tort guard on the sonic blue. But it wouldn't help much.
