Squier Classic Vibe Precision refinish/makeover questions...

Hi all,

I simply can not deny it...I really like this inexpensive lightweight great PBass but the finish is not working for me...it is the Fiesta Red that some love and some hate...I am somewhere in the middle ground...that exterior aside...this thing is just too much fun to play...and although I am leaning toward adding the Fender '62 P-pickups...it is the exterior I am inquiring about...

First off, I am buying a replacement actual tortoise guard for this bass as the Squier one is a bit tacky..still hardly a complaint on an instrument at this price point...but I am unsure whether or not I should scuff (I don't wanna say relic and start one of those debate things up) or treat or sand the body to take the clear coat sheen off somewhat...I WAS thinking about getting it painted....but I wanted to maybe try and just subdue the existing Fiesta Red color somewhat...ala the Fender Pino Palladino Custom Shop Signature model...any suggestions would be appreciated...anyone actually refinish one of these or spray paint one or relic one or something...there seems to be sooo many happy owners of these basses ( and rightfully so ) so I thought I would post this and see what emerges from the TalkBass wilderness...

thanks!

I would sand it off where it says SQUIRE or SQUIER and paint the headstock the same color as the body...I would take steel wool to the body and rough it up, make it look like it's live a long hard life. Then I would play the hell out of it. I would put some Fender pure nickel strings (Fender 7150's) for that original 1960's sound, I like
MED Light 45-65-80-100, or you could try out some Med 45-65-85-105, anyway you look at it, this bass can be modified to be more like a real Fender from the 1960's..
Good Luck!

I was thinking of getting one of my Squiers re-finished. While discussing it with JohnK, he said that he could "scuff" the finish (instead of removing it) and paint over it, so your idea is workable.

+1 on the Daphne Blue! Sonic is also cool in my book:
