I think I'm going to see if I can check one of the CV's out an do some comparing. I like the price tag. I just don't want to get it and later wish I would have just waited and bought a 50's p ri. I have to admit it looks sweet.

Squier CV P Bass.

You can try the DM's and report back. I'm a bit curious if your experience would be the same as mine. I've been thinking about the Nordstrand too, but if its' a bass you like the feel of, then does it really matter how much it originally cost?
as mentioned in a previous post, i really haven't had the opportunity yet to fully evaluate it. picked it up this morning and had only enuff time to drop it off at home before heading to work. i did play it a bit thru one of their ampegs while they were writing it up, but i was mostly concerned with cosmetics/build quality/etc. i've owned numerous squiers over the years and have learned not to expect much out of them sound-wise. the CV line appears to have broken many of the construction quality barriers of previous models, so i guess i shouldn't second guess the new pups before giving them a chance. as i also mentioned before, i can't have stock basses around and must change SOMETHING. same with stock harleys...
The bridge cover that was supplied with my sonic blue 60s CV P bass is Fender part number 007-7335-000
The pickup cover that I added was order through GC as I was buying a few other accessories from them.
The only other change that I have made was to change out the stock strings to a set of GHS Precision flats which really helped to get a more "vintage" tone.

last night i had a chance to spend a bit more time (an hour or so) with the new fiesta red CV. before i could play the thing at all, i had to take those roundwounds off it, which were d'ddarios, by the way. GC must have put them on there (can't imagine fender (squier) shipping basses with someone else's strings). i put on a set of very lightly used chromes until i decide what else, if anything, to do to it, then it will get a fresh set.
the setup was very good on this thing. i'm guessing this was also done at GC. i hope so, anyway. that would mean they are finally showing some concern. perhaps it was setup properly right outta the box, but that would be a first for me. the nut is cut amazingly where it should be (for me). if it was any lower it would buzz, but as is, its just above that threshold. neck is straight and the strings line up with the pole pieces, for the most part.
smooth, non-scratchy pots. fit and finish is superb. since i came upon this very soon after GC hung it, the only blemishes are my own fingerprints. couldn't crank it up in the apartment, so can't really comment on the pups just yet. eaglemoon suggested i leave them in, rather than swap out immediately with dp122 and i was seriously considering that until i found the stock pups have raised pole pieces. this may be a 'feature' for some people, but i prefer them flush.
all in all, not a bad little axe for $278. light years better than what most (myself included) would expect from a squier. plus, its fiesta red...

Mine came with D'Addarios as well. I remember seeing in another thread that this was pretty common.
I would tend to agree. I put a set of Fender 9050L's (not the newer variety) and it sounds very nice. If I didn't already have a Bill Lawrence P-46 sitting around I would leave it stock. I'll have the P-46 put in Saturday and post an update on the results.

Wow. Interesting. Also ironic, since the V.C. Squier Co. used to manufacture Fender's strings. Perhaps they still do, I wouldn't know as I don't use Fender strings. But I am certain that as far back as the mid 70s, they did. Just seems strange to me they would ship another brand of strings on their new basses, Fender being the sales whores that they are. Did they buy out D'A or something? If so, then I understand completely...

Just spent another 15-20 minutes with it, pretty much TRYING to find some fault, but it really is nice and apparently that way right out of the box. Flawless fit & finish. I still cannot vouch for the pups because as mentioned, I am unable to crank it up inside my small apartment, especially this late at night. The action is perfect. Thankfully, the string change last night had no effect on it and doesn't appear to need any tweaking as a result of that. I gotta admit, I originally bought this on something of a whim and because of the fiesta red, but I'm really starting like it for what it is - a extremely nice, inexpensive, instrument. Very impressive...
I sympathise about 'tweak lust' -- I think there's something in me that wants to put a personal touch into the instrument, for better or worse. Do I really know what I'm doing? Usually not. But I'm usually happy with the results.

I was over at my local GC just the other day and played one of these. I was knocked out. Very well made, sounds great, lots of bang for the buck, and I love Fiesta Red. Typical Asian thick poly from head to tail, but that doesn't bother me too much, and it makes the bass nice and shiny.
