Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V -- Unbelieveable Bass!

I found a used Squire active V in a shop today. I didn't have time to plug it in, but the bass felt and played great. I am going back Monday to give it a workout. For $199 I may have found the spare gig bass I have been looking for. I've also considered a SX, but for a few extra $$ this seems like a winner.

I tried the Squire Deluxe V today at G.C. They wanted 300 for it.

I found it quite solid I liked the way it played. The slap switch really adds punch to the bass. It is actually heavier than the Am Deluxe V, I played them side by side.

It has a wider neck at the nut than the Deluxe as well, but all in all, a very nice bass. Certainly worth having.


Did anyone notice that the pegs on the tuners just pull right off?

Get it. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised when you take it to your first gig or rehearsal. This bass is light years away from any SX I've ever owned or played. Trust me that they're not in the same league.

I can't seem to get a good vintage type sound out of my bass. All I get is finger-noisy, clackity junk. Any help? I have a four band EQ on my amp.

Roll back on the treble and mabye the mids on the bass, should help.

I took mine gigging on the weekend for the first time and had a blast! Got lots of complements on the sound, too.

It's good enough that I'm taking it to a recording session tonight.

It really is just *that* good.

Of the Aguilars, the OBP-3SK is the perfect fit for this bass http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Aguilar-OBP3SK-Onboard-Bass-Preamp?sku=487411

It's set up exactly the same as the stock controls... Vol, Blend, stacked treble/bass, mid and the mid frequency switch.

As far as pickups, I can't really help you there because I yanked the stock p/u's out of mine immediately and re-routed the cavities for soapbars. All I know is that both p/u's are the same size, so most sets won't work since they usually come with a bridge p/u that is slightly wider.

Drastic improvement. Where the Squier pups are "not bad", the DiMarzios would deliver a wider range but with a slightly scooped character.

Very nice pickups.

You must consider the Squier pickups are the same size (width) for both bridge and neck. You might have to mix a set or do some routing.

I just took the plunge...bought a black one today at GC in Youngstown, OH...more the $200 cheaper than I can get one in Australia...

in a couple of weeks, this will make the trip back with me along with my old '91 P-bass copy...

I think this bass ROCKS! I can't wait to get it home and get it into premium playing shape (it's already pretty darn good, but I can do a bit better).

The bass on the right is my very first bass which I built from parts in 1991.

Yeah, I own one of these. Pretty good bang for the buck, even tho I use pounds (£) .

Only problem is I have to get it set up.
