Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V -- Unbelieveable Bass!

I put new knobs on as well - just cheapy ebay plastic jazz bass knobs. I even found stacked JB style knobs for the bass/treble controls. I installed my BEQ12 along with a pair of Duncan SJB-5's and it's a wonderful sound.
Thanks for all the info guys, ordered my BassMods pre today. Would any of y'all, by chance still have a set of the stock concentric knobs laying around that you'd wanna sell? I have all the knobs minus one set of concentric.
Aaaaah. Bassmods pre came today. I got the version with 2 concentric pots, on for Bass/Treble and one for mids/passive tone.
Concentric pot doesn't fit in the former Mid pot hole and I don't have a drill bit to widen it. So now the bass is all gutted and I can't install the pre.
Ugh. Bassless until I get a proper drill bit.

Picked up a mint factory refurb for $250.
Wow. The neck is wide! In fact I'm wondering if I can adapt to it from using a 4 string with tighter spacing. To the point I'm having some buyers remorse.
But I'll stick with it for a bit to see if I can adjust.
I'm starting up bass again after an 18 year hiatus and I always wanted to play a 5. I figured since I'm starting from almost scratch again, I might as well re-learn on a 5.
But wow. That neck is wide! Lol
I figure worse comes to worst, I should be able to sell it/trade it for most if not all of my money. So it's a worthwhile experiment.

Finally got the BassMods pre installed and wow...it really woke this thing up.
There is a ridiculous amount of bass boost on tap (almost too much...almost...) tonal flexibility is great, even with the treble boosted its never "brittle", the mids really add some punch. Also, I'm glad I bought the version with the mid/master tone pot because the tone knob helps to give it a more vintage feel but still have the flexibility of the 3 band EQ.

I love this bass.
took a trip down to GC tried the deluxe and it played flubby. I was sure i could be impressed by it. After a set up by the tech guy; it impressed me. I LOVE THE NECK, many claim it's too wide however i found it just as playable as my four. The spacing is perfect, im a slapper & i felt at home. The sound it very clear, the basses tone is quite different from the usual alder jazz bass, but shares the same fundamentals. I was not overly impressed with the pre amp, but i could dial in plenty of usable tones. Only real complaint is that everyone's DNA was on this bass  and it had its share of dings for a "new" bass.
I will be buying this bass. Gunna use it as my main thumper  i'll most likely have GC send me a brand new one. Its on sale 229.99

Dead strings too I'm sure. I like my obp-3. I got the active passive switch, which is cool. That slap switch is silly.

The pickups in the ADJV are not in standard jazz placement???
I know now-a-days a standard jazz is 60's spacing.Then of coarse 70's spacing which this bass is clearly not. If its not standard than what is it?

I think it's less about the location/spacing of the pickups as much as the physical dimensions of the pickups. The stock stock SADJV PUP's both measure 92mm x 19mm (3.6" x .75") where a Fender Jazz V pickups are closer to 4.0" long for the Neck and 4.1" long for the Bridge by 18mm wide (.73").

I'm thinking I want pearloid, tort or "candy crush" type effect. But also thinking no screws.

I plan to replace the pup to an ultrajazz and the preamp to an obp3 -- not sure if that's a good idea

Anyway, that is almost exactly what I had in mind, except I have sunburst, so I think suitable colors are red tortoise, black, yellow, and my target, blue-white shell.
I'm just wondering how to attach the pickguard without damaging the lacquer. In theory I may use self-adhesive film if I can't get blue white shell/candy crush over here

Here's my new Guitar Fetish $12.95 Black Jazz pick guard that I almost nailed perfectly in a 1 hour span with a utility knife, router smooth file bit, hand files and patience in measurements. I inadvertently made a scratch by applying to much pressure will fine tuning the neck oval cut. Only the owner can see it. But I think the black pick guard fits perfectly without taking away too much from the original design. Picture attachment added.
