well I'm referring to the squire company in general as compared to essex, but I'll try anything out. if I see one I'll give it a fling, who knows.

Shouldn't the fretboard be less likely to be uneven than on other cheap basses due to the Ebonol fretboard?
Personally, I don't really like the colour, the burst looks to dark for my liking. Now they need to make a fretless P, but I don't think that'll happen seeing as they don't appear as popular as fretless Jazzes.

I believe the body is "soft maple", not "true" maple, which means it's probably one of those cheapo woods low-end copies are often made of. Not that I'd mind at the low price, my Squier P has an agathis body and sounds resonant and lively with long sustain, even unplugged.

At least they're not trying to pass it off as a Jaco "sig". Besides the wood differences, the Squire is missing his fingerboard dots, and the burst finish is different (3-Tone for the MIA, 2-Tone for the Squire).
I'd like to try one, if only just to compare it to the Jaco Relic that they have at my local GC.

Agathis is very similar to Mahogany tonally. My Ibanez has an Agathis body and my old Thunderbird had a Mahogany one, they sounded quite similar played acoustic. My Ibanez however had better sustain as I put a Badass bridge on it.
I've seen some luthier's use soft maple, It's not a cheapo wood. Then again, especially Maple, wood isn't expensive at all. Also, a lot of replacement bodies I see, for P's and Jazz's, mostly have been alder or ash. I rarely see a solid maple body, of any type of maple anywhere.

Just because its fretless and "modified" doesn't mean its a Jaco signature bass. Its just a fretless Squier that actually looks like a pretty good deal. I'd say try it before you buy though, I don't know about Squier's construction.

Yes I know who Jaco is bigtime...and I read the post complete....there is no connection to the BOD that I can find....perhaps you could show me...?
I do not believe this is a signature at all....just a low priced, Squire fretless, that happens to be painted the same color as the "refinished" BOD.
Trust me, if Squire made it to be a BOD copy....they would promote the heck out of it...and not just expect JP fans to "read the whole post and figure it out"
the thing that makes this bass stand out as more of a jaco sig than a happy coincidence is that squier have gone to the trouble to provide the metal knobs ala jaco, if it was just a fretless vintage jazz without the pickguard surley they would have left them as the standard ones. On the whole i think it looks like a very good bass with a nod to jaco on the design front.

i'm suprised it took em this long to cash in on this idea. they're freaking slacking over there at fender. they're probably trying to get some of the people that would be buying an sx to come get this.
its a bit of joke really, fender only offer freltess basses wit rosewood boards but when squire does one they get teh right idea and use ebanol
