I don't have any formal music theory either. That's why I make silly guesses.

I will say, however, that I have no use for frets I can't easily reach and/or serve no useful purpose for the tunes I am playing. I could say they are "bonus" frets, but I won't .

I know what ya mean. I never play above the 12th fret! But that could change !

I picked up some music theory along the way, but all it does is confirm another way what I already knew by ear.

Folks sometimes ask whether I read music, and I usually say "not well enough to hurt my playing !"

If I was the bandleader, I would choose a person with a good quick ear and sense of timing, over someone loaded with theory training and fluent music reading any day !

What small amount of theory they might require, I could teach whenever the need arose.

Good call! I was in Canada in 95 on a fishin trip. Loved it up there! My ears ain't what they used to be but they still work better than my brain!lol!

Me too. Only in my case it's been 50 years. Without hearing aids, it would be pretty quiet. I won't comment on my brain. A 40" monitor and new glasses make it appear that I am normal. I think.

Just joined TB after having followed his post for a long tome. I have a squier jaguar ss in silver and want to upgrade the pick guard to black pearl or parchment. Has anyone done this and how does it look?

Managed to get some help on a few bits (fine motor control on my left hand still a bit tricky after surgery), and got through some mods on my Jag

I'm in. I really thought I was done buying basses. Then I tore a muscle in my left shoulder a few months back. As much as I love my P and J basses, reaching for that low F during the last set could be uncomfortable. So a short scale seemed a logical choice. This little bass is shocking. Feels and sounds like a Fender and at <$200 I couldn't say no. A quick restring with some old Chromes, adjustment to both the action and truss rod and I'm in short scale heaven.

Pretty sweet but what's it all do?I can't tell if I'm looking at switches or pots with no knobs. Please keep in mind I'm deaf in 1 ear n can't see out a the other!lol!
