Squier Jaguar Short Scale Club Part 3

Added a neck/both/bridge pickup selector (cream tip), a Hagstrom tone filter switch (black tip), series/parallel rotary switch (closest to P pickup), changed it to master tone and volume, swapped the bridge and converted to string through, drilled out the cream fret markers and replaced with rosewood for a more stealthy look (I like bare boards), painted the headstock black and added a Fender style "shager" decal because swearing is clever and manly and poopie, after buffing it up to a shine I flatted it back to a matt finish and did the same on the body, plus a bit of distressing. Also re-did the scratchplate to allow for the switch plates and a pickup cover. Used threaded brass inserts for both the bridge and pickup covers. I think I prefer it without them on there actually. The headstock colour changed the feel of it more than I was expecting! Still, the holes are there for it if I change my mind. I also made tortoiseshell and black scratchplates too, but the white pearl looks best to me. None of the wiring is attached to the scratchplate so it's an easy change. I'll add photos of the other plates and with the pickup covers at some point! Overall I'm happy though

Couldn't tell you to be honest! I can only play for about five minutes at a time right now, but cos I knew I was painting the headstock anyway I thought I'd make the change at the same time. Break angle is almost identical to the E string on all the other three. May make a difference, may not, but most of the time when I mod basses it's so I can learn something :)

Very cool! But with all those changes, you're still running stock pickups?

Jason at BSO is in the process of shutting down his operation. He's currently dealing with a lot, so please cut him some slack. He's a great guy and normally very responsive, so please don't base everything off of this one interaction (or lack thereof).

Honestly, I've never had a bad experience with the guy. He WILL do everything he can to make your order right, so even though BSO is shutting down, I wouldn't discount his business. The only reasons I wouldn't buy something from him right now would be that the strings I want aren't in stock (he's blowing out all his wares), or I didn't have a PayPal account (credit card payment has been disabled).

Could anyone help me out with a little info? I want a new nut for my Jag SS and need to know if it is a curved or flat bottom, but don't really want to remove it to find out. I searched these threads as best I can but couldn't find out. Anyone on here do an upgrade and can advise me?
I want a graphite tusq nut ideally, but they only seem to be available curved.

Mine has a flat bottomed nut. I bought a blank tusq and shaped it myself.

I will have one of these in my hand on Sunday. I cannot wait. Was out of town for a work trip, stopped by one of the local guitar centers and found a used black jag ss for 99$. I played it the first day for about 45 minutes, and the only issue I noticed was a 3" scratch across the back that was into the paint, sound and play-ability wise she was flawless. The next day I went back, and played for about another 30 minutes, and took her up front to pay. Unfortunately, GC had to hold on to it until the 4th, and I won't be back in that city until Sunday.

For the money this bass played wayyyy above it's pricetag. ....But... because I'm a mod freak.. I did already buy a Gotoh-201B, Black straplocks, a black string tree, and Dimarzio DP126(to match the DP123 in my VM 77 Jazz). I am going to string this up with D'addario EXL160S 50-105 strings to start. Pics to come...

The stock P is really quite good....... the J not so much, but then i only ever run the P anyway.

They really are. I've got two much higher-end basses with custom necks these days and the little Jag gets very neglected but every few months i grab it and have a play and remember how truly good it is...... and mine is back to stock as I ended up using the Gotoh Ultra-lite tuners and Gotoh bridge on my fretless.

It actually took me so long to step up to full-scale after owning the Jag as most things I played, even up into the $2000 ++ area, really didn't feel any better than the cheap Jag, and most didn't look or sound any better either.

I've got to look up the magnet mod for the J pickup again and give it a go.

You're going to have an awesome bass, i just swapped out a single DP127 for the 126 set and it sounds even better than before!

Also, as a recommendation to everyone- try out the Ernie Ball 45-105 short scale strings, all the beef of the E and A of the D'Addarios but with slightly lighter D and G strings make for good times.
