Price on the new mustang is up there compared to the jaguar. I'm looking to fill out my short scale bass collection with a ukulele bass and a 8 string octave bass. I will catch the new mustang when it goes on sale.
The bass on left cost me $5 and turned me on to short scale bass
It's pretty, but the "P" pup is in the wrong place, and they forgot the "J" pup, and the Surf Green model has the wrong colour scratchplate, and it needs Gibson-style double-parallelogram fret markers, and... 
I know what you're thinking "how does he tune the g string on that rat bass". Well you simply pull off the e string tuner knob and do it. G never needs tuning anyway. Rat hot rod cars are very popular in California so why not basses too...
Yes, half the pick ups twice the price
The same thing happened around 2011, when both the Jag SS and the VM Mustang came out.
Most people thought the Jag was a better value - dual pickups and about $100 less.
The Mustang got dropped pretty quickly, but the Jag stayed around for a fairly long time.
I heard about the VM Mustangs too late - they were already discontinued.
But I did get a Jag SS for $149 brand new around 2012. That was also my first bass, and I still have it.
$349 for the new Classic Vibe Mustang is about twice what the Jag SS was selling for at one time.
But to me - I think it'll be worth it. Can't wait to get my hands on one.
I've played a few Classic Vibes and the only thing I'm not crazy about is the heavy poly on the neck. That's one thing I love about the Jag SS I got recently (a 2018 model). It has a nice satin finish just like my Mustang P/J. I thought my previous Jag SS had a much more raw feeling neck... Why are there more SS's coming out, don't they know we're all weak and have to have them all? Enablers, that's what Fender is!
The Jag SS was $149 when it first came out and went up to $199. The VM Mustang was $279 and the CV Mustang is $349.
So they probably dropped the less expensive Jag SS and are betting that people in the market for a SS will go for the more
expensive CV Mustang rather than the only other remaining SS Squier - the Bronco.
I'm predicting they'll come out with a Classic Vibe Jaguar SS in several years with a corresponding increase in price.

Nah. I don't need the Mustang for twice the price. One of the great things about the Jag is the unquestionable value for money. I love the versatility of two pickups and the ease of mods and upgrades. I have my Jag with flats and an easy mod. If I want another SS it will be a Jag, too, adapted to meet my needs.
Yep - the Jag SS was a true bargain. I don't know if we'll see another one like that again.
Closest thing left to it is the Mikro, but I had a couple of those and they weren't a good fit for me.
I tried a Gretsch G2220 the other day. I liked it, it sounds good, but it's $300 - yep the Jag SS was a bargain.
I bought my Jag in April 2015, and the price was the best I could find anywhere in Europe (I'm in England but bought it from Thomann in Germany): €245 or around £176.40. In USD that would have been over $270.00 at the time.
Just sent a text to the guy who runs the bass department at my preferred shop asking him to contact me as soon as they get the new Mustang. The only question is whether I should get rid of my VM J. I don't really need 6 basses and between the Jag and the Mustang I would be is short scale heaven.
Can't see it here in NZ (not unusual) but if they can price it as well as the Jag then i'll be getting one as soon as they arrive.
