I just checked the prices of some $349 CV basses at Sweetwater (CV 60's Jazz and CV 70's P) and they are priced at $799 and $999 respectively so i'm expecting the Mustang to be somewhere in between those figures. It's interesting that two basses of the same price over there are so different here.

It'd want to be good for me to buy one at that price.... and unfortunately (for me) the colours don't do it for me either..... oh well.

"...$349 for the new Classic Vibe Mustang..." I like the green, but the tort pick-guard on the white looks pretty sweet too. I like that it has string-through-body, and I think that will be a big help getting thump from a short scale. The neck shape looks similar to the jag.

I don't like the shiny poly finish on the back of the neck, but that can be addresses with some scotch scrubbing pads and elbow grease. The Jag's neck finish is what initially got my attention in the store.

As far as mods, it doesn't look like it will provide many opportunities. The bridge may or may not be easily replaced with any standard five screw model, but almost all of them will leave screw holes exposed. I have no idea if that style of split pickup is available anywhere in the after-market, but if so I suspect the choices are rather limited. It won't be like grabbing a P/J set that can more or less drop right into the Jag.

I'm willing to give it a chance, but my gut says this is not going to inspire the kind of loyalty or enthusiasm that the Jag does. I might be wrong, It's happened more often than I care to mention. ;-)

I can't imagine that too many people would want to replace the bridge. It's part of what gives it such a unique, identifiable look.

There's 4 or 5 replacement pickups that can be found in a quick general search, or a search on this site.
But you're right. No where near as many as for the Jag SS.
I guess if you don't like the Mustang sound, then don't get a Mustang.

Why would you buy one if you've never even heard one let alone played one? I know this is a Jaguar thread but the SS Jag sounds like an average PJ bass IMO. A Mustang definitely has its own sound going on. You should play one first or at least listen to lots of demos.

Just wondering.....at what point did Squier start making these jag ss basses with laurel fingerboards? Have any of you guys tried out that newer version? I'm curious if the overall quality of the newer ones is consistent with the first run....

I have owned both! I sold the Fender Mustang in favor of the SS JAG!
