Thanks man... I did see and hear this video a while back. The bass he is playing has a replacement "Ebanol " fingerboard, so that transforms the bass into a whole other animal. I'm hoping to hear about converting the standard rosewood board into a fretless...Thanks!
Yup, the Rondo SS case fits the Jag just fine - about perfect both width and length
.A Rondo SS bag also fits perfectly - I generally find hard cases to be too bulky and add too much weight.
Actually I was surprised with how heavy the Jag SS is - are they all on the heavy side?
In case anyone is interested - there are some serious mods happening to my SS Jag.
Will I still qualify to be a member of the club after this? I'm happy to give my number up but I'd like to still hang around

IT CAME!!! The FedEx elves left me a gift while I was at work. Brand new candy apple red Jag shorty. My first shorty AND first 4 string. Have to re-pattern a few songs not having the B string, but not as many as I thought.
The neck is really nice, strings are at a good height, and good fit and finish. Had to tweak the intonation on the E string a good bit, but I'm a little more OCD about intonation than most might be. The P pickup is great, and the J is pretty nice to my non-professional ear. Noisier than the stacked J pups on my old HM-V, but once in the mix not noticeable. Really looking forward to the future with this bass.

I found that the heavier ones have no neck dive, last year I returned one that was lighter but neck heavy... go figure.
I ordered the Fender brand Urban Short Scale Bass Gig Bag with my Jag. Fits perfectly. Since this is a shorty, I wanted something light and mobile.
Yes, this one seems to lack neck dive even with the stock bridge and tuners - sustains nicely too

Even my Landing SS (in my avatar) lives in a Rondo SX bag -and they sell for $2450 new now <eek>. I'm usually carrying my bass, laptop, and small bag (cables, tuner, etc) to rehearsals so a hard case would turn it into a two handed carry unsuitable for doors and stairs
. Plus how yah gonna get some mojo on it when it's protected in a hard case 
?

Anyways the stock strings sure are BRIGHT after having played flats for a year. The Geezer pickups sure have a lot of grind. Setup is good enough for now (and I'm pretty particular, even have a set of nut files) - dunno if the previous owner did any setup work. The candy apple red looks much better in person that in photos but I knew it would - candy apple red doesn't generally photograph well except with Fugi film (anybody still remember film cameras? LOL). The Pearloid pickguard also "pops" a lot more in person. I'll probably play the stock strings for a couple weeks just to hear how they sound once settled in.
Hmm... now I'm jonesin' after a Fender neck plate to "match" the Fender Jaguar headstock decal - just to tweak the Fender snobs
. I do have to loosen the neck bolts and align the neck with the body a bit better anyways.
One thing I am opposed to is putting another brand logo on a product. If recirculated into the market of used products, someone may actually be tricked by it.

. And if somebody is stoopid enough to pay big bucks for a short scale PJ Fender Jaguar (which they never made any of 
) - well, that's just a basstard tax IMO 
. And there are a LOT of firewood-grade Fenders out there being sold, IMO a Squire is not only a better deal but more likely to be a good instrument and no less a "Real Fender(tm)" than some of the low end Fenders 
.I have to agree. Mine says backed by Fender (or something to that effect) on the back of the headstock. Same design, trademarks, technology. I wouldn't stick a Music Man logo on there, but Fender.... no problem.
Kinda funny, another on my bucket list is a SS MusicMan, maybe I'll reshape the headstock, move one machine to the other side, and decal up this bad boy

May I get a Jag SS Club number?
I played with the band last night and WOW! The tone and sustain were amazing from this little guy. Sound in the mix was awesome and the tones available were quite impressive. This is my first P/J style bass, and I am ecstatic.
I can't find the post I found the other day on tone and volume controls upgrades. Are there better drop in pot options for improved linearity? I really only have the last 1/4 turn to make adjustment.

I like Bourns pots. Prefer to go with V/B/T electronics. 250k pots with a .047 drop cap on the tone.
Mine has the solderless Geezer EMG's and I was able to mod it to my preferred (for PJ's) Master/Bridge/Tone just by moving a few connectors around - zero dollars and 5 minutes
.BTW I'm holding off on putting on the Hipshot bridge until I get tired of the stock strings - or maybe not even then as I'm not having any neck dive or sustain issues. Hated the stock strings at first but as I'm coming from flatwounds on an active "P" I figured I'd try them at a couple rehearsals. In general those of us that don't just play alone
know that you really can't tell how it will sound with a band until you try it - they were OK at the one I've taken it to so far . I did have the tone rolled completely off (doing R&B, Blues, and classic rock) - I'm pretty happy with the tone cap that came with the EMG's, it doesn't cut the mids when you roll it off like many. I assume I'll be rolling the tone back on as the strings settle in. Dunno why everyone hates on Fender Strings...

I modded my first bass - yay!
I bought a trashed out Squier VM Jaguar long scale - the older one with the stacked knobs and Duncan Designed pickups.
The neck was severely bent, and I bought it mainly to use the pickups and control plate/knobs.
I had tried one out when I was looking for my first bass and liked it, except for the scale.
I was going to put the SS pickups and plate in that one, if I could straighten the neck.
But that didn't work out.
They're not exactly the same size, so there's some little gaps, but I don't think they're too
noticeable. I like the sound better, and like having dual volume and tone knobs, but I can't
really call it an extreme change in sound - just better to my ears and more flexible.
Anyways, here's some pics of the result and the donor bass:
